Same reason it's good to have lots of good basketball teams in the  league. More opportunities for quality wins in case you don't win the Dr Pepper. I'd say Big 12 still has decent shot for a second playoff bid if it's a 1 loss team and the SOS is decent.

It's not the same though. CBB profiles are based off of computer models. CFB post season profiles are based off of a beauty contest and perception. We have no idea how the committee each year is going to base that perception so coming from a P4 conference you're better off just winning as many games as you can.

If we had a 12 team playoff this year, the committee would have picked a 12 win team, with literally the worst strength of schedule in the sport over a 10 win team in a stronger conference, and with better wins.
