Someone on KSO made what I felt was a pretty prescient point regarding Tang toward the end of today’s game.
Basically the poster said that Tang “masquerades” as a modern players coach, but is in actuality very old-school.
Masquerading is imo inaccurate. Tang is very modern as a promoter of the team, school, etc. He is a big cheerleader. He does all the right things in front of the camera. But it isn’t fake. It’s real.
I do agree with the poster that Tang is old school in terms of what he expects from his players and how he manages his roster. What we witnessed during the UCF blowout — playing 7 guys until the final 2 minutes of game time — is legitimate Frank “buy in or quit” type stuff.
There really is no other way to explain it not going deeper into the bench.
Sending Colbert, Rich, Manning and RJ with 2 minutes to play in a game you know they were pining to get “meaningful” minutes in was an absolute message, and you can bet your ass Tang and Co were eyeing their effort level.
The only one that didn’t make sense was Manning, who Tang praised following Chicago St.
