Started studying for the jeopardy test. Plan on taking my test around the first of the year next year.
is there a limit to how many times you're allowed to take it, greg?

afaik you can take it once every 12 months so idk why you wouldn't just take it now if you were planning on next year.

anyway i just took it for fun and found out afterwards they do NOT tell you your score. they only let you know that you "passed" if you get an audition. outrageous.
Yeah I think it's something I am just going to use to pass the time. I spend alot of time online might as well use my time to study for something.

I watch every episode and have for at least the last 5 years watched a lot when I would ride the bus home from school and get home cause in Wichita the time it aired was at 4pm. Past contestants recommend going through this website that saves every game board and play a few games a day so that's what I'm going to do.

The link below is a process FAQ on how the contestant process goes:
https://www.jeopardy.com/be-on-j/faqs#:~:text=The%20test%20consists%20of%2050,You%20cannot%20restart.

I am also looking for a trivia group to play with in KC so if any of you are in the area and interested it would be a lot of fun and another way to dust off the ole noggin. Would love a place that does Trivia like Mae's but haven't found one yet.

Greg I’ve got news for you, you’re never going to find a place that does trivia like Mae’s. If that was your first soirée into bar trivia then you have my deepest sympathy, for you had no idea you just happened to show up at the pinnacle. Everything else will pale in comparison forever, I’m afraid.

They do not tell you if you passed. When you complete the test they give you the contestant search email address and tell you to save it to your contacts so the email won't go to spam if they email you.

I have that desk calendar and have had it for 3 years, y'all gave me a spoiler for today.

Also I thought this was bumped because the guy on Friday's show made an actual Cliff Clavin like error. They are playing a tournament and he had enough money to qualify as a wildcard for the next round, it was the last match of the first round. For some dumb ass reason, he wagered everything on final jeopardy and missed, he went from tournament semifinal qualifier to home with no money.

It's crazy that the game has been around so long and a majority of big mistakes come from because you don't know the rules or the wagering system. Can really bite some in the butt.

I misread @mocat's post, sorry bro. BTW, not everyone who passes gets an audition, and not everyone who gets an audition gets a chance to be on the show. If you are selected for an audition, and this largely depends if they are doing auditions in your geographical area, you go to a hotel ballroom, or convention center, and you have to take another written test. This one you have to get 25/30 correct, if you pass that test, you have to do a screen test. This is just comprised of you standing in front of the room, playing a mini game with two other players. No score is kept on this mini game, it's just a way to see that you are fine to be on TV. After this is done, they don't tell you if you're going to be on TV or not, you just have to wait until they contact you. If you are selected for TV they will email you and you then need to travel to LA, on your own, that's why they pay the third place player $1000. They shoot several episodes at a time, just a couple days a week. I can't speak to what happens with super and ultra champions, I've always wondered how they deal with that. How those people manage their lives, because you're contractually obligated not to disclose your results until your show airs.

I have a buddy that got all the way to the mini game. Never got contacted to travel to LA. He's intelligent and affable so I was surprised he didn't hear back after making it that far. The whole process would be infuriating to me.

Also, Mae's trivia is the GOAT of trivia and you all are conversing with one of two people to ever win it seven weeks in a row  :gocho: (cross post to brag about some stud thing thread)

My team won exactly once and that night we lived like Kings. We probably could have won more if not for the fact that we took every available risk even if it was completely unnecessary because we die like men

When you make it to air they consistently drill on this along with making sure the contestants know how to properly time the buzzers. They won't start taping until all three contestants are getting those things right.

MiR how do you know all this stuff?

I was screened for College Jeopardy and I was on Sports Jeopardy when it existed. Sports Jeopardy had the same directors, producers, same what they call the clue crew, which are essentially field producers who do the screening, same hair and make up, same studio. Everything was the same except for the host, a border they put around the board, and a cringy couch they put behind the podiums for a "post game interview." The judges were different. Howie Schwab, of ESPN and Stump The Schwab fame was the chief judge. I haven't watched pop culture jeopardy yet, but I assume this holds true for that show as well.

Seemed fine the five minutes we spent with him during the cringe post game interview.
