yeah, that sucks.  i think it was one of those things where all five schools got together and were like "crap, we're about to get majorly mumped over!  How do we sweeten the pot to keep them here?  I know, let's throw 10 mil of Nebraska/Colorado's money their way!"

The five agreed that if necessary, they would use a portion of their shares of the money Colorado and Nebraska will owe for leaving the Big 12 to ensure a certain level of revenue distribution. Contrary to some reports, use of this revenue from those five institutions does not affect the revenue distribution formula or the amounts that would be distributed to the other institutions. All withdrawal fees withheld from Colorado and Nebraska will be shared by the 10 remaining members in accordance with the conference's revenue distribution policy."

emoticon or not (and one is in the works)... goEMAW inside sources (one in the nebraska athletic dept and two very well placed big 12 north people, including one media member outside of the big 12) have said that "getting away from texas" was the main reason why nebraska chose to bail on a new big 12 package that would have paid them possibly more than what the big 10 offer was, assuming that nebraska would've went with their own network. no football conference championships in over ten years. ouch.
