They play on an 8-man sized (80yd) field.

If you can't field an 8 man football team, you shouldn't have a school.

I went back for alumni homecoming a few weeks ago to find out we had dropped to 6-man.

The Miege rule. Makes sense:

Quote
The local impact: Maybe the rule’s most-anticipated effect would be to change the classification of Bishop Miege High School in Roeland Park, which has run up an unparalleled record of athletic success playing in Class 4A in recent years, winning 118 total state championships between 2014 and 2019, including a six-year football state title streak, from 2014 to 2019.

The proposed multiplier rule would Miege would move up to a higher state classification to play schools with larger enrollments.
If the Legislature approves the rule, Bishop Miege would move from 4A to 5A, Miege Athletic Director Joe Schramp confirmed for the Post via email.
Schramp said this means playoff games and matches could be more challenging for Miege’s teams.

They tried that here and it had no effect on the large class at all, we still have underfunded city school getting their brains beaten in by suburban and large catholic schools. It has helped the rural schools in the smaller classes to not get pounded by parochial though.

Yeah, here in KS 5A/6A are almost interchangeable when it comes to top of the line competition in FB. But when you get down to 4A its a noticable difference. There is absolutely zero reason Miege should be competing for state titles in football against Colby F'n Kansas.

Funny thing is that I am friends with 2 guys who graduated from Miege in the mid 00's and they sucked ass at football back then. It wasnt until they started "recruiting" around 2010'ish that the just started smoking everyone.

Just googled KSHAA classifications and it looks like Colby has fallen down from 4A to 3A in the past couple of years.

Random side note. Last fall when I was driving out to the Colby area on the Friday evening before pheasant hunting season I was SHOCKED to see how many different western KS HS playoff games I could pick up on the radio along I70. It was probably 4-5 games and I hadn't even heard of half these towns.

I listened to about 2 hours of random radio calls regarding teams I had never heard of and loved it.

They’ve really changed up the classification parameters in the last few years.

Weird that they have a 1A 11-man division. Seems like most 1A schools (and maybe even few 2As) used to play 8man. There was always a 1A-2A 11-man classification up until a couple of years ago. Amazed that there are 42 1A schools playing 11 man

It is my understanding that the reclassification that took place a few years ago was due to 4A being split into 2 divisions. Somebody didn't like that and therefore resulted in the smaller 4A division becoming 3A. There were probably some bigger 3A schools that remained 3A, but most of them went to 2A. Then the 2A ended up being 1A and thus 1A became very large. This is just my understanding and I could be very wrong.

4A is weird. Huge discrepancy between some of the bigger 4A schools (eg McPherson) that have always been in 5A until they were pushed out by suburban schools and the smaller 4As.

Seems like a really good way to toss up a pick 6.
Seems like this would be a dumb play to run unless you were already ahead by 40 and just felt frisky. My money is always on converting "Power Right" for 2 points in the 8 Man game.

Our offensive line in HS ranged from 250 to 285 pound fellas (8 man football).  Every once in a while, we would bring a lineman into the backfield and let them run a 2 point conversion in.  I got to do it once and it was tremendous.
