Tbh, I'm not sure a Manhattan jury pool does him any favors. I also think, based on the defense's opening arguments, that they expect to lose, so they're just using this as a victiming opportunity.

You're correct. It's not what happened. There's no right to a jury trial in this instance because the claims at issue are equitable in nature and did not exist at common law. People v. First Am. Corp., 2011 N.Y. Slip Op. 33061, at *4 (N.Y. Sup. Ct. 2011), is directly on point. Sorry to burst your bubbles.
