You know, what do they call that, an AR-15 or something? That was a big gun. That was a pretty tough gun, right?

14 little words are a very powerful force in modern American conservatism.
This. I think a lot of people aren’t connecting those dots.

I know we have disagreed about “populism” before but on your definition it is undoubtedly true that we are already there rhetoric wise.

I think we are getting in to a rhyming cadence that aligns with these words, but it does not mean it isn’t dangerous and awful and worth fighting against.

“History repeats itself, first as tragedy and then as farce.”

To be clear, I’m in favor of it being easier for ALL Americans to have and raise children.

I personally don't think raising kids is that expensive right now

Higher than it has been historically?

It ain’t lower. Are we trying to boost the child rate, keep it the same or reduce it?

I think you probably start seeing that after they have 2 and are debating a 3rd.  You can fit two in a normal house/car that you would have had anyway.

Aside from the childcare, food, diapers, crib, clothes, carseats, stroller, eventually needing a bigger house, nothing much.

It didn’t prevent me from having a child (and about to have another here soon), but there’s a lot of expense.  And that’s the reason a lot of people give when they say they’re not having kids.

Neither of these 2 candidates will do a single solitary thing to change the price of having a kid over the next 4 years so, not sure why this is in the Presidential thread.

I really hope and pray (seriously) that Trump uses this moment and his second term to bring more voters to his side by focusing less on scare tactics and demonizing and more on touting how everyone could benefit from a given policy.  For example, would love to see what he could do  if he felt like he didn’t need to pander at all to the religious far right.

Is it too much to ask for him to be more like George Bush senior and less like Rush Limbaugh in his second term?

Have you ever seen him behave like a respectable human being in his life? I don't  think this will suddenly make him stop being the insufferable piece of crap he's always been

case in point:

The biggest issue is probably housing costs. It's a lot harder for one parent to stay home than it used to be. Everyone pays that, though, so it's not really a "cost of having kids" thing.

It's kind of hard to raise kids in an apartment I'd think.

Well neither candidate is going to do a single thing that will enable all adults of child bearing age to afford a single family home with a yard either.
