Mich, you don’t know anyone who’s doing that right now.

I'm reasonably sure I have ex-friends who would call someone a man of taste and distinction today. (In a derogatory way). But you're right that I don't associate with anyone that would do that. Which is my point!

Majority of my family is what I would describe as traditional republican. Not MAGA, pro-vax, etc. Local news watching republican v. Fox News watching. I think very highly of almost all of them. Much higher than my few leftist relatives but they are all abusive/strung-out losers unrelated to their politics. We also have some full blown MAGA, openly bigoted, anti-vax downgrades in the tree. I don’t think either side are really representative of their political party in general but just anecdotal to me. There are a lot of republicans and dems that have much more in common with each other than the noisy representatives of each extreme.

yeah which is why your 50-50 favorability makes sense

Democratic mainstays. Whatever that actually means.

There are definitely a lot of things dems do I like, way more than whatever the pubs have become. I like SD agree if you're more old guardy pubs I general don't have an issue with you though.

I just want us to get on with things like medicare for all/single payer, and try and not spend so goddamn much on a bloated military. Most other things usually become more minor after that.

Is it just me or do "old guard" Republicans seem to disagree with the current Republican party on just about everything but taxes and maybe punishing criminals?

Even if we never discuss politics, I don't have much in common with MAGAs overall. I'm not going to be hanging out with them for plenty of other reasons.
You guys have mixed up the term of "MAGA" so much, it's not even funny anymore. Most of my lefty friends in college, used homophobic slurs (Knowing I had a gay uncle), and act like they're huge LGBTQ+ advocates now. MAGA is pretty much anything that doesn't fit your 2022 agenda these days and that might be more hateful, than how someone votes every 4 years.

By MAGA, I meant the 30-40% of voting Republicans who have been super enthusiastic about Trumpism. I assumed that's what it means to pretty much everyone.

I do not do the same activities as these people. I do not have similar interests. Like, the last movie I wanted to see in the theater was The French Dispatch. Catch my drift?

I think at the end of the day it doesn't matter if you are republican, democrat, atheist, christian, gay, straight, etc. etc. there are good people and there are pieces of crap. Try to be a good person and not a piece of crap.

wacky i love this idea of yours which you seem to hold dear...this idea that whoever you were at some point in time is who you are always. Just as one example you made a comment the other day, something to the effect about how this board used to be the edgy rival board and now everyone has kids and i dunno i'm sure you probably threw a "woke" in there.

Anyway my point is, people are actually capable of like, growing and evolving? As they encounter more life experiences they gain perspective and evolve?

fwiw I think college BAC and present day wacky would probably be best buds irl  #commonground

edit: well, saying "present day" is redundant when describing wackycat, he is who he is and has always been and always will be

Well sure but farming doesn’t usually come with free housing, healthcare, education, pension etc.

You just have to use the money you are given by the gov for that stuff.

if the ideas and overall point of view that you have been bringing to this board for literally years is just you gEing and its all just an online persona and not a reflection of how you are IRL, then hats off to you sir! I can't help but feel like a lot of the stuff you say on here isn't just shitposting, i suspect you sincerely abide large swaths of the stuff you say but hey, only wacky knows for sure.

if that's the case...then I guess my question is...why bother? If its just an act and you don't actually believe any of the points of view you espouse then why waste your time? As you pointed out I literally don't know you but I do know you have a job and a wife and a son and a gay uncle (unless all of that is just make believe world-building in the wackyverse?) but if you have all those other things why spend your time here in the pit "playing devil's advocate" or whatever?

Which of my takes offends you the most, BAC? Thinking transgenders winning at female sports is unfair? Thinking the inflation we're seeing is absurd and the current party might have something to do with that? I really need to know what grinds your gears with me. Or should I just lay down and play sheep and bravo everyone with their groupthink takes?

It's not just wacky, but I have to admit that I enjoy when people who self identify as not maga get mad at people talking about magas. 33 seems to be particularly touchy in this area.
