I don't think I've missed a SOTU in my adult life. The President “shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.” Article II, Section 3, Clause 1. It's a Constitutional imperative and an important historical mile marker, regardless of who's in office. Does it ultimately mean much? No, other than as a barometer for how the party in power is thinking.
