aside from drones and homemade weaponry, one of the really novel things about this war is the advanced age of the participants.  prior to seeing it, i'm not sure i would have believed that a high-intensity, multi-year war could be sustained with middle-aged soldiers.

The Pentagon’s costly fleet of F-35 fighter jets can only fly a little over half the time, as maintenance issues keep the aircraft on the ground despite the growing reliance on the planes by the US and its allies.

The fleet’s mission-capable rate — or the percentage of time a plane can perform one of its assigned missions — was 55 per cent as of March 2023, far below the Pentagon’s goal of 85 per cent to 90 per cent, the Government Accountability Office said on Thursday.

The report from the GAO, an independent congressional watchdog, was published just days after a Marine Corps F-35 crashed in South Carolina, prompting a search for the plane and raising questions over how it could have gone missing for a day before its debris was located.

This occurred to me, but then I also heard the Pentagon said that only 60% are flyable (or whatever term they used) at any given time, whereas they expected 85-90%. Another psy op? Maybe they actually kick complete ass and we don't want people to know?

Jets that work half the time make tax payers have to buy two instead of one.  It's even better than iPhones rough ridin' with their batteries after a couple years.

I mean, who could have possibly seen that a plane with 1000's of contractors and millions of lines of code might have some vulnerabilities.  $20-$30 billion more should get it squared away (on top of general production and purchase costs of course)

Also this model has an automated ejection system.  So maybe it decided that it didn't like the cut of this particular pilots jib

Pure Bullshit.  It's been reported that Poland is ready to attack Russian and Berlarus troops because of their war exercises near the Polish border.  Putin knows all of NATO could become involved and is ready to call off the war.  I have been reading and hearing reports this past week.
