It really is amazing that we had such a higher opinion of their army than what appears to be actuality. Really drives home the lack of intelligence we get from there.

It seems like Putin has just been fronting the last 20 or so years. How exhausting that would be.

Really makes me think he is more dangerous, not less. I mean, this has to be amazingly embarrassing. Good thing he digs sitting by himself at his lunch table.

this thread makes an argument that strikes me as probably correct. russia will try and defend the territory they (mostly) control rather than return to the offensive. it will be much more difficult for ukraine to oust russia than it was for them to thwart russia's offensive, but the best chance they have is right now before russia can reinforce and re-equip.

the u.s., europe and the other countries offering aid need to make sure ukraine has the equipment to continue pressing russia immediately and also not throw any political impediments in their way.

on both military and humanitarian grounds, i don't think it is preferable to press ukraine to accept a peace while russia occupies ukrainian territory (excepting crimea).

Russian intelligence seemed to have an even higher opinion of their army than our intelligence did. I think our intelligence has done a lot to ensure that Ukraine gets the right equipment and knows where Russia is moving.

yeah, it's not clear, at least to me, how deliberate all of these killings were, or how widespread they were, but it's pretty clear that there was some horrific stuff going on.
