My theory is it's a soap opera and the boys are very cute and charming and kind of daredevils. I'm sure the Netflix show exploded the number of female fans in the US

This was a very big moment in my household:

my boss went to the vegas race, he's not into racing, he took his daughter who is. He liked the cars, but he was not into the event, at all, said he'd never do it again.

I don't think it's a sport that will get you hooked in a one time in-person event like maybe the US Open (tennis) or college football could. But the more immersed I get, the more enjoyable it gets

It's one of a few sports that I think is truly better on TV.  Golf is another.  With either of those you can't possibly have a sense for what is going on by just watching it....you need loads of other info to complete the understanding.

I feel like all sports are better on TV, with the possible exceptions of baseball on a nice day and hockey.

Oh how could I not mention grid walks with Martin Brundle. So all the US broadcasts are produced by sky sports in the UK and their color guy is usually this old racer named Martin Brundle. For some reason, F1 lets celebrities and other rich people walk around the starting grid while the crews and drivers are getting everything ready like 20 minutes before the race. It's hilarious and absurd to begin with but then this guy Brundle randomly walks the grid with a microphone awkwardly interviewing any celebrity he can find for 15 minutes. It's so great and ridiculous.

Bro pretty routinely calls black people by the wrong name, he can't tell us apart, it's funny as hell. I'd love to know what happens in his head when he sees a black person on the grid walk who isn't Lewis Hamilton. It really only ever happens in Miami.

my daughter watched the F1 series and got super into it, so I started watching races and listened to some podcasts on roadtrips with her and kind of got hooked. It's such a silly sport! There are 10 teams of 2! Same 20 drivers every race! (more or less) They all do goofy promos for crap but all are ultra rich and live in monaco! The rules are stupid and arbirtrary! Max easily wins every race!

seriously it's very fun
Listen, I am self aware enough to say that my love of the premier league despite me playing soccer is at least a good bit determined by my social status and politics.  You should just realize that you don’t just like F1 because your daughter, it is an aspirational hobby buddy and you will go to Monaco in the next 10 years.

Congrats! You made it!

I was going to say all professional athletes are rich but I'll concede there's something different about a race car driver living in Monaco and a football player living in like an Overland Park mcmansion

Was a great race. Love all the trashy Euros pretending to be cowboys because they're in Austin (noted cowboy town)

also Liam Lawson getting crap on at Red Bull is great. Love Lewis at Ferrari and getting pissed at his engineers. McLaren might make this a boring season at the top. Ollie Bearman saying "Ciao" on the radio to go from 16th to 15th was elite.

What a sport!

Here is the cost breakdown:

airfare: $220 because I'll already be in Europe for work
Airbnb: $375 for 4 nights in Nice
Tickets: $160 for Friday, $270 for Saturday

Not bad! plus the race in Monaco sucks, quali is where the real action is there.
