GREAT call with the Yazoo.  If aliens came down from another galaxy and were like “hay fd we’ve never heard 80s music and we can only stay for like 4 minutes can you plz play us one song that encapsulates the entire 80s sound” I’d be like “sure thing here ya go” and play them Only You by Yazoo.

I still have no idea if I'm supposed to call them Yaz or Yazoo?  Anyway here's a bop featuring synth from them that I thought of when I first saw the thread:

Yeah -- it's an earworm, that's for sure.  first time i ever heard it was in an episode of the Americans, and it stuck.

I have a feeling Dave Chappelle hates Lita's guts.

While we're talkin' talkin' heads to our talking heads.

BTW @SkinnyBenny I discovered this song via Guster on Ice.

Perhaps this tasty alternative from 81:

As I recall from listening to the big 80s on 8, one of the guys from sugar hill gang was supposed to do the rap but on the day they were recording he didn’t show up so Debbie Harry just kinda winged it, which is pretty neat

Peter Gabriel had some of the most interesting videos and lyrics.  Not bop but worthy of mention:

no cheating: you have to watch the first 0:56 of this amazing latin chick bop video without skipping ahead until the horns drop.  No cheating

chick bop 3: Conga by gloria estefan & the miami sound machine

edit: upon further review, there is absolutely nothing else that gloria could've named her band other than "the miami sound machine"

Hope I'm not stepping on any chick bop toes here but this one is the epitome of 80's synth chick bop:

Same. The only more memorable Talking Heads intro for a young SB was Foxtrot, when Peter Fox listened to Burnin' Down The House thumpa thumpa thumpa thumpa thumpa thumpa
