Our local park has a well manicured hedge row in it.

I remember how my mind blew during my first horticulture class when I realized what an Osage Orange tree was.
And that the tree everyone calls a Chinese Elm (or piss elm) is actually a Siberian Elm. Chinese Elms are really good cool trees unlike their cousins.

Went on a tangent today and was looking at the State Champion trees of Kansas. Jealous of all you KC bros
https://www.kansasforests.org/kansas_forest_services/kfs_docs/Champion%20Tree%20Report.pdf

They have a pretty sweet map where you can select the State Champion locations layer and then click on each one. Half of them have a picture you click on at the bottom of the info.

look at this guy, starts as one, turns to two.  wow.
i’d guess it is probably 75 feet tall.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Missouri has one too. Which is great because it’s probably effective for Northeast Kansas as well.

Happy First Day of Fall to all who celebrate.

Very nice cool drizzle falling this morning after four months of broiling summer in Central KS.

Also, do any of my GE resident arborists know what’s going on here?  I have a couple of young maple trees that get these weird brown and black spots every year towards the tail end of summer.  They don’t appear to affect the health of the trees as both have shown v good growth over the past few years.  The leaves just get spotty and gross and me no likey. What gives?
