not really news, but an interesting essay (warning, there is no satisfying conclusion drawn).

3 Dams collapse in China.  Not sure if they're hydro-electric.

If so, they'll fire up another 5 coal fired power plants.

But they've "promised" to work on that green energy.

That is a shocking video. Not sure why the guy filming on his phone is cracking jokes like it's a comedy club, tho.

Good economics lesson in there. Wasn't someone saying that Afghanistan has copper deposits the Chinese are interested in extracting? Seems like this would be a good way to fund the regime. Get cash in exchange for the copper. Like a discount Saudi Arabia with copper instead of oil. The Taliban regime would probably just use the cash to buy weapons (like N Korea).  Only $600M of medical supplies imported per year - that is like $22.50 per Afghan citizen.

Ted Cruz immediately posted his condolences along with a picture of him meeting Abe to make sure people know he’s still relevant.

Abe was bad. Japan’s democracy is more of a joke than ours. The Reuters headline was funny. https://twitter.com/Srirachachau/status/1545300311815831552?s=20&t=QYpxZIt3TVxmP0bWQ8FFDA
