i think we'll be able to manage without a technology that requires a small steam engine to record a simple transaction.  as my new best friend pinboard said, this crap has been around for over a decade.  if anyone was going to figure out something useful it could do, they'd have done so by now.

I don’t see how the future internet wouldn’t be built on a blockchain. Whether it’s in mainstream discussion doesn’t really mean anything. But if you’re basing utility on whether it happens in the next 5 (or even 10) years then it’s a fair point.

Goodness knows that 10+ years ago I certainly expected marijuana to be off the schedule I drug list by now. Sometimes there isn’t really a good reason for lack of progress.

English-speaking "Customer service reps" get recruited / kidnapped to work in them. One scheme used used is known as "pig butchering game" where the scammer slowly builds trust with a mark and gets them to transfer escalating amounts of crypto funds. This was central to to the downfall of an Elkhart, KS bank and well-known (in KS banking circles) KS banker by the name of Shan Hanes. Hadn't heard about the case until listening to this:
