They repeatedly copy off of us in referencing family in sport venue naming.

Apparently one family owns their entire athletic department or something, I don't know.

Strange
Yeah, Leland Stamford made a bunch of money during the gold rush exploiting asian immigrant/native American labor and then built a college to celebrate it.

IIRC they used to be the Stamford Redmen and their mascot had a full blown headdress.

That same family basically runs the university now and is thinking about ditching the tree mascot to go back to the full blown Redmen nickname.

It would probably hurt the image of our program if we played the game this fall.

As you guys know, I live in the Pac12 region.  All the local Ute fans and sports radio experts ever say about Stanford is that they are a total drain on the conference and a big part of why the Pac has fallen behind the other conferences.  Wouldn’t be surprised if they get kicked out during the next round of TV negotiations.

My Catholic friend told me that birds cannot absolve sins thus they are inferior to people cardinals.

I then asked if cardinals crap in the woods like the Pope and he said no, but he admitted that bears wear funny hats.

I'm pretty sure Stanford was founded by two individuals and they never discussed the mascot.  One went to fill out the paperwork and put the mascot as the Cardinals, unoriginally thinking it up on the spot.  In the meantime, the other one was handling the press around the new university and was being interviewed by a newspaper reporter.  The reporter asked about the mascot and the founder panicked, realizing that it had never been discussed or agreed upon.  He looked around and saw a sickly tree a few feet away.  He pointed it out to the newspaper reporter and the rest is history.

Let me give you a better stat than that.  Almost 63% of them don't believe in the lord Jesus Christ.  Not sure how well that will go over with all of our god fearing Cat's :cyclist:.  I for one will say the lords prayer for as many of them as possible.  The rest can burn.... :whistle1:

:lynchmob:.
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

we're on similar levels academically/culturally, i'm just not sure it would benefit us to be seen as their peer from an athletics standpoint

Holy crap. That Starbucks isn't a converted Taco Bell or other Mexican restaurant. They built it that way!

Somebody told me that in honor of the Doritos Locos tacos, a couple of years ago Stanford started putting Doritos dust all over their diplomas for their cum laude students. It's like glitter, but it's cooler ranch doritos.

When I saw the headline, I thought it would be fodder for the Wichita thread.  Dig deeper, and we see the Kansas-Stanford-Starbucks-Taco Bell connections are ever-y-where.

Locally owned restaurant serving both pizza, chicken tenders has opened in west Wichita

Quote
The building at 8977 W. Central in Wichita had been home to Pizza Hut since at least the mid-1970s. But about six months ago, that Pizza Hut moved to a strip center at 737 N. Maize Road.

Now, there’s a new pizza tenant in the building near Central and Tyler that’s sandwiched by Starbucks on one side and Taco Bell on the other. But it serves more than just pizza.

Last week, Joseph Fowler and his wife, Jacqueline, opened a new location of their Electric Pizzeria in the space. And although they’re still selling the pizzas their customers have been ordering since the couple opened their first pizza restaurant in Derby in 2018, the new location is doubling as a place to get fried chicken tenders and sandwiches.
