Cooked - Survival by Zipcode
« on: July 30, 2020, 09:10:27 AM »
I watched this doc about the 1995 Chicago heatwave last night. Discussed how deaths from the heatwave were a symptom of underlying poverty and despair. Enlightening section about the effects of redlining, as well.

interesting, I might watch it someday.

I'd recommend reading "Family Properties" about redlining in Chicago. It's infuriating and pretty fascinating and teaches a lot about American History in a very personal way and definitely changed how I look at American cities. I think our very own kat kid recommended it.

Really surprising given that Chicago is a multi-generational core component of the Democratic political machine.

I don't think redlining was practiced by the city government. It had to do with federal home loans.

Merely typing the word Chicago on here magically summons the dax.
