Been really thinking over these reopening plans and when I'm going to feel comfortable telling my more vulnerable family members when it's "safer" for them to venture out and even myself as I'm sure I'll participate in higher risk activities like restaurants / gyms / domestic travel than them and I don't want to expose them.

I think my own personal checkpoint I need to hear is that KC metro health officials tell us they know feel comfortable in the levels of our local hospitals, their ability to test new infections, identify where they came from, and get a handle on tracing their contacts.  Also what safety precautions these public places will be told to put into place.  Especially now that the metro is fracturing as far as opening dates.

Beyond that, I don't trust any of these openings and it feels more like a political game which is ludicrous.

Ohio, Georgia, etc. making strides to open back up. This is amazing news. Living off the government sucks. Let’s rough ridin' go!!!!

GA just got smacked by the Opener in Chief that it's a bad idea.

The only people who don’t feel comfortable about reopenings are people who are still getting paid while working from home. Time to get back to work. eff this bullshit.

No doubt it makes it easier but I have family that are collecting unemployment and I don't want them going back to their job until it feels safe.  It doesn't right now.  When Trump even says "ehhh, too early dude", it's probably too early.

Definitely positive signs that plans are being made.  Let's hope they are being made with the local health officials in the room, they should be the commanding voice in this.

You know how they said they’ll give an additional $600 a week to unemployed people during this time on top of unemployment? They’re not doing that yet and I feel that’s more important right now than handing peeps a $1200 check who are still working. People are suffering. My brother who’s a personal trainer and made a really nice life for himself is flooded now. People were projecting a million deaths in the U.S. and we’re under 50K. The recession of this thing will be far greater than the health risks. This is going to eff crap up majorly! But yeah, let’s hide in our houses forever!

IT people aren’t getting furloughed right now. They’re only gaining job offers through this process. If you’re going through it too, my apologies, I honestly hope you’re doing well. However, unless you’re speaking for someone else, this doesn’t play or your company is just really stupid for furloughing an IT person during this time.

ChinStalker, what do you think state governments should do in this situation?

At current pace it's approximately 550 jobs lost for every Covid-19 death.   That's using known unemployment filings.

That ratio will likely tighten a little in the short term as public health departments retroactively re-classify COD on a number of cases.   If the morbidity trend-line holds true, and lock downs continue, that ratio will likely expand as job losses mount.

Well I'm not a governor (and I don't envy them), but I think caution is important, it's dangerous to tickle the dragon's trail.

State governments and provide financial assistance as much as possible  (hopefully in concert with the federal government) to help those who are impacted the by the business disruptions, while trying to minimize the spread of infection.

I don't have the time or inclinations to make a detailed plan for you covering all scenarios, but I think GA is being reckless.

But that still has nothing to do with wacky making a false statement.

What on earth is the point of that comparison?

Are you stating those 550 jobs are permanently lost just because unemployment was filed?  Because let me tell you each COVID death is permanent

What false statement did I make? People who are impacted right now, I feel, want to get back to work. Especially those who help support families. I’m sure there are some out there that can relax in this climate living off the government, but I’m not one of them. I miss my job and nobody’s hiring in today’s climate. We’re averaging 5 million unemployment claims per week during this. It totally sucks!

Are you stating those 550 jobs are permanently lost just because unemployment was filed?  Because let me tell you each COVID death is permanent

Well first of all, thanks for letting me on the secret that death is permanent.

We are at the tipping point of of creating a situation where the long term effects/affects of the economics of the virus will be greater than the impact of the virus itself.     It is vastly more difficult to tackle pandemics if there's no economic engine to fund the mechanisms that are needed to fight the health issue.   The health issue is then further exacerbated by the very real possibility of more and more asymptotic super spreaders of not only Covid-19 but any other virus that comes down the pike living in the streets or suffering from malnourishment (just two examples).    Not to mention the long term psychological impact of a massive economic trough that takes years to get out of.

So while people like you continue to pile on with reasons to continue stalling the re-opening the economy, the long term economic issues only get worse and worse.    The plunge has to be taken soon.    We've likely already passed the point of a V shaped recovery, and are likely looking at more of a Nike Swoosh recovery with the bottom still not in sight as things continue to be stalled.

This will cost a fraction of what it was going to cost for them to be on their regular air show schedules.
