I'm not really prone to conspiracy theories, but I'm a little suspicious of some of the pushback on hydroxychloroquine. Lots of companies are hoping that they have the magic bullet to help solve this problem, and if hydroxychloroquine, ultimately, is the solution, that hurts their pocketbook. If that's the magic bullet, a lot fewer people stand to make a lot less money.
Didn't read this before posting but basically says the same thing https://www.statnews.com/2020/04/13/coronavirus-health-agencies-need-army-of-contact-tracers/

Sys, do you think any travel this year is realistic? Particularly European or Caribbean?
The only way to properly track an extremely contagious virus in a country of 370 million is via technology. The notion of "hands on" virus sleuths is a fools errand. Particularly a virus that can count asymptomatic infections in the hundreds of thousands.
I mean technology will make it faster, cheaper and more accurate considering a lot of the population have cell phones. Would be p crazy to see that used in this way imo from a privacy pov.
I haven't really been following the tech stuff too closely, but this would be something people would need to "opt-in" to, right?

I would opt in in a heartbeat. The problem is, too many people will be paranoid and not do the same, so I question how effective it would truly be, other than giving me the occasional good excuse to WFH another 14 days...

I am not technically savvy enough to really understand how easily that could be circumvented, and in the end there's the truism that no system is unhackable (but maybe this is sufficiently difficult enough so only a few have resources to hack it discretely)

There are too many examples of overreach in the past to think this would go well. Absolutely would not opt-in. Considered throwing my phone into the fireplace after seeing the tracking of phones that were on the beach for spring break.-Sent from my iPhone
