Dear leader, communist agitator media is partnering with Muslims abroad to spread rumors that you poop like a normal person, how do you respond?

These are turning into little rally’s since he can’t have mass ass kissing events anymore. Also, where is Dr. Fauci? He is the only one that provides any semblance of accurate information.

38% of US hospitalizations under 55 seems not good.

americans are very overweight and that leads to a lot of extra chronic conditions
Similar numbers in France and the Netherlands too. Didn’t seem to be any noted indication that weight or chronic conditions caused this. It isn’t like older people are super skinny and healthy here either.

Not saying you’re wrong, just not sure on what basis you’ve drawn that conclusion.

we have similar obesity numbers or they're seeing similar numbers of young cases?

Regardless my post was a theory based on what my wife tells me about her ICU patients, not on any real data. There's a lot more young-ish people there than you'd think.

I thought I read yesterday that the data suggests about 1/5th of people in their 30's with rona will require hospitalization, they just aren't dying

Maybe I'm getting things mixed up though

Yeah it’s only the death rate that is drastically different among age groups. Even kids under 5 have required intensive care, although I still think no one under 14 has died anywhere.

Grats to Italy, I guess, pretty shitty milestone, although I don't believe China's supposed numbers.

michcat does your wife know of any advice/guidelines for hospital workers who are working directly with c-19 patients? My sister in law is a nurse in KC and she was just informed that her unit is being converted to a c-19 unit and they are going to be treating those patients effective immediately.  She is freaking out b/c its not optional. she is not in a union so she has no leverage or ability to say no other than to quit. she didn't sign up for this and they have provided no plan and no training, its just like...you're up. She is terrified. my wife is terrified for her.

She became a nurse and didn't sign up to work around sick people?

My wife is working her hospital's covid unit. I don't think the protocols are THAT different from a typical isolation case in an ICU (which is where my wife normally works). The biggest challenge is the lack of PPE followed closely by the lack of capacity (driven by a lack of testing, leading to slow ruleouts along with the uptick of cases). I don't think she'd be terribly worried if she had the proper PPE because they haven't started triaging yet. (that will be very tough)

Also she's union and it's not helping with the PPE situation. My advice would be to press her managers on that front ASAP.

yeah I mean if she was doing like postop med/surg or labor & delivery I can understand not wanting to go into an extreme ICU situation. If she's already in an ICU she should be prepared.

And I am not being mean or making light of the situation but this is kind of like the guy who joins the army then gets mad when they send him to a place where there is fighting.

We had a vacation Vision Quest planned to start late next week. The plan was to drive down in our camper van, zig-zaging through NV and AZ, stopping on Forest Service or BLM land to camp by ourselves. Then we had a guest house rented (non refundable at this point) that is totally separate and probably 100 yards away from other houses. While there, lots of hiking and mountain biking. Social distancing is pretty much our norm. We would be as isolated as we are at home, except for stopping at gas stations to grab a snack and restroom break. (brb, gotta wash my hands after typing that)

There are currently 6 known cases in our county, and 7 in the one we would be visiting. Not exactly hot spots, but it is present.

Anyway, I guess we are not going. So, in short, **** those kids in Florida :shakesfist:

Maybe we should just say f it and roll across the desert Mad Max style.

And the rest of the story - my wife is a relief ICU nurse. She has not worked since the first case was announced here, and isn't scheduled to go back until April 13. Any bets on what things will look like then? Will she be using printer paper and gorilla tape for a mask?

I would probably still take that vacation if I had it planned and paid for.
