Elementary kids are starting to return to school here. Families are allowed to opt out and continue virtual learning and the rich white part of town has half as many kids stay home as the side of town with more minorities. Kind of interesting!

I don’t think there is any step left after 50+ like they’re just starting in TX. The 1B category is already broad enough that basically anyone who wants a jab can shoehorn themselves into one (at least in the same way you can get a prescription for medical marijuana in CA or whatever states still do that).

This has come to pass. TX gen pop opening March 29. Only stayed at the 50+ limit for two weeks.

Far be it from me to try to mitigate good news, but does anyone know why there is such a discrepancy between Worldometers and the New York Times on the case numbers in Kansas?  Worldometers has Kansas at 173 cases/day while the NYT has Kansas at 350 cases/day for the seven-day rolling average.  Worldometers has reported 0 cases for Kansas since last Friday while the NYT reported 1362 for yesterday (Monday).

Your instincts appear to be correct.  After looking into it a bit more, I think the NYT has screwed up Shawnee County somehow.  Their numbers do not match anything that is on the Shawnee County site.  It looks like the NYT is counting over 1100 cases for Shawnee County for yesterday when Shawnee County is not reporting anything like that.

These individuals are getting exposed at work and in the community so this  is great news b/c there was some question about if the vaccine would protect in the community as well as it did in the trial settings. Eg, would people who cared enough to participate in a trial be wearing masks more, social distancing more, etc.

Yeah for sure. You really have to take those initial 94/95% figures with a grain of salt since the actual number of infections between control & vaccines was only different by like a dozen (since most participants were already isolating regardless).

Love seeing the raw real world numbers as they come out.
