NERD POSTi was wondering at what point conversion % would make this a punt. like could you just isolate this situation into:
- home team goes for it at 4th and 1 at midfield. convert and home team gets the ball at the 50, fail and the visiting team gets the ball at the 50. each team gets a chance to finish out the drive. compare this to home team punts at 4th and 1 at midfield. the visiting team gets the ball at the 15 yard line and gets a chance to finish out the drive.
i made a spreadsheet, just estimated how often a td and fg is scored from the 50 and the 15 yard line (35%td/35%fg vs 15%td/15%fg)
am i missing something? a conversion rate over 20% and the offense should go for it on 4th down.
