Adele is awesome but she can't even be a top female pop artist of the '10s ahead of Taylor Swift, Gaga, Bey, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, and if she doesn't get back in the studio she's going to get passed by Camilla Cabillo.

She's in a group of artists like Alicia Keys, Annie Lennox, The Dixie Chicks Santana, John Mayer, etc. Artists who were immensely talented, more so than their contemporaries, and they had awesome commercial success, just not as much commercial appeal as their slightly less talented, but more popular peers.

when artists are under consideration for my list, i think about those who did something to move things forward or had a substantial impact on at the time.

adele is great but she's not different than a lot of great singers who have done the same thing as she's doing

I place a high value on innovation, too. Like, I hear Michael Bublé and think it's a guy trying to sound like Frank Sinatra. Why don't I just listen to Frank Sinatra instead of a guy trying to sound like him???

oh definitely. How many bands could inspire two different movies 30-40 years later? That's impact!

this casual observer of the country genre would opine that kenny planted the seeds which have since bloomed into today's crossover country pop stars.

Kenny Rogers has a very distinctive voice that sounds rough ridin' great. I always thought The First Edition was kind of an experimental band, too.

One of my child hood friends from Iowa had a dad who played with Kenny for a bit, before he (friends dad) went into gospel music and started his own label. Had a ton of pictures of him and KR. Was pretty cool to see.

Sonically and innovations wise the 80's are light years ahead of the 70's, just like the 90's are way ahead of the 80's. I think the 70's have a defining sound, the decades that follow do not.

So, Kenny Rogers is responsible for Florida Georgia Line?  Now I hate Kenny.
