j rake taking a direct shot at manbeck
well, you're not wrong. but i don't think it was very direct. kinda indirect.
but no, the k-state beat is filled with fans and always has been. which i am fine with - sports is supposed to be fun and games, after all. but just admit it. when you work as a supposedly objective beat reporter for many years, and then you leave that job, and then you re-emerge publicly as...a fan...i think it undermines the work you've done in a way. it doesn't mean that you were dishonest, or that you intentionally wrote fluffy stories to support the team/program you like. but it could certainly influence your news judgment or the types of stories you pursued and how aggressively you pursued them; particularly the negative ones.
i kinda like how matt hall does it. he openly says he's a fan of the program and then covers the team with that bit of transparency on the table. i wish more reporters would do it - such as mike dearmond, who was a huge fan of mizzou; or howard richman, who has revealed himself to be a k-state fan.
anyway, you guys can have your thread back. also for the record, i actually like cole (even though he's a big ten hater and always has been) and i thought he did a really solid job of covering k-state for the mercury!
