I really want to read that post up there about Ender's Game, but I can't because I still haven't gotten to see the movie yet!  :curse:

Ender's Game kinda sucked. First off Bonzo shouldn't have been a midget, I think without even a cursory knowledge of the book that it was obvious that Bonzo was supposed to be an older, larger kid who should be able to kick Ender's ass. Also, Bernard and Ender really hated each other, and the movie doesn't do crap to explain that. The first 2/3 of the book is basically battle room scenes, and the strategy in the battle room is part of what really made the book interesting, it seems weird that there were only a couple of scenes dedicated to that part of the story. No Valentine and Peter basically at all. If I had not read the book, then I would have had no idea why Ender hated Peter and loved Valentine. I think this is a rare case where the movie should have been a two-parter. First movie is all about battle school and background story on Ender. The movie ends when Ender meets Mazer Rackham. Second movie is command school alternating with scenes of Demosthenes and Locke, ending with Ender finding the Hive Queen. I think there was more than enough material to make it happen.

pretty much agree. I thought the casting was fairly horrible overall. I felt like any viewer who had not read the book would have no clue what was even happening.

like every bit? because i did not think it would be possible to pitch that story line to an american audience. also, i realized yesterday that spike lee was the director. had no rough ridin' clue.

so maybe it's just me, but I really didn't see oldboy as all that violent and disturbing from a gore standpoint. i was much more horrified by the plot. the story is incredible.

Agreed, that's what surprised me when I heard they were remaking it for an American audience, the base plot just seems like it would  be far too unpalatable here.

Catching fire- I enjoyed it. Much better than the first and way more intense. Worth going to see in theaters if you like the series...

Watched "Lost in Translation" tonight. It's not going to change your life, but it made you think a bit and was damn charming.

Why?

it was in the netflix queue and came in the mail - didn't know anything about it at the time.  probably the most disturbing film i've ever seen.  i'm probably on some damned FBI watchlist now

I agree with everything you said. Ender should have been a lot shorter. Also, I don't like how they threw Bean into Ender's launchie group. Bean is supposed to be younger than Ender - but I am probably more concerned with this since I just read Ender's Shadow.
