I thought that the movie glossed over just about everything. It was like they just took some key scenes from the book and then shot them, but skipped almost everything in between so you really didn't have any sense about why anything was happening unless you had read the book for context. The movie would have been a whole lot better if they would have made it about an hour longer and spent a little bit of time developing some of the characters.

Saw Ender's Game. Good, and fairly true to the book, but I think if you haven't read the book, the movie may have glossed over a lot of details that seem important to the story. Not sure how it is as a standalone movie.

i read it in like, middle school and loved the crap out of it but i don't remember a thing about it. should i read the book before i see the movie? or just watch the movie and enjoy the ignorant bliss of not knowing what isn't in the movie?

I'm in this exact same situation.  Weird!

The Whistleblower.  I was not really prepared for this one. Warning: "sex scandal" does not mean a Bill Clinton blowjob-gate type scenario. Pretty horrifying and maddening film.  :frown:

yeah, it felt like the wedding crasher part 2, but they didn't go to weddings anymore, and they needed a job.

12 Years a Slave

Pretty hard to watch.  You should probably watch it though.  Fassbender and Ejiofor did a very good job.

It was devastating but incredibly well done. The brutality of slavery is just mind blowing, considering it wasn't that long ago in this country historically.

Gone Baby Gone

Wow.  A very convoluted story line and characters i didn't really know.  But boy, was it intense.  There was a part during this movie that scared me worse than I can ever remember being scared during a movie.  Also adds a nice little bit of moral philosophy that you and your friends can talk about after the movie ends.

Mystic River

Generally pretty meh.  Another super convoluted story that worked worse than Gone Baby Gone's, IMO.  Penn did a very good job, but I really didn't like his character on a personal level.  There were a few loose ends that the ending didn't tie up for me either.

First of all, I understand that the ending was supposed to be sort of open ended. However, if that was the case, then why bother with the epilogue at all?  Why not just end it after Penn kills Robbins

What was the deal with the Kevin Bacon's wife storyline?  Is it just a "see, they all had emotional issues stemming from the molestation"?

Where does Tim Robbins' wife go from here?

Does Sean Penn get his just deserts for killing Tim Robbins?  Who gets prosecuted for that murder?
