A place beyond the pines - WOW.  I loved it.  Great score, great acting, beautiful movie.  Ava Mendez is almost a perfect female.  Rgoz IS the perfect male.  Just really rough ridin' fantastic.

Didn't at all go where I figured it would go.

I saw Pain and Gain (Michael Bay) last night.  One of the worst movies I have seen in 5 years.  Do not waste your money on this movie.  I honestly would rather have watched a made for TV Lifetime movie than this crap.  Best part of the movie was the trailer for Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Learn from my mistake please!
Yeah, it was pretty bad.

Watched "The Impossible". True story of a family in Thailand during the tsunami. I liked it because it was a true story but, weirdly, if it hadn't been I might not have liked it as much. And I find Naomi Watts to be attractive.

I watched that.  Those people are filthy, disgusting slobs who routinely let their pets die from starvation.  They let their horde of dogs crap everywhere in their house all the time and just laughed about it.  Subhumans.

ya it was a pretty interesting commentary

pretty good back story to it all as well.  the husband sued the filmmaker trying to stop the movie from being released, meanwhile the wife is out doing promos for the movie and camera hogging it up with the director who he was suing.

also, they're white trash

Minority opinion here, but I don't think Wes Anderson is as clever as he seems to think he is.

I watched a television documentary on youtube during my lunch break called "Tsunami: Caught on Camera".  The title is really bad, but the content is profound.  It's a 7 part youtube viewing and it documents the tsunami that hit Sri Lanka and Thailand on Boxing Day in 2004.  It is not for the faint of heart and it is sombering to say the least, but an amazing story that many don't know the details of.

Here is the first part if you are interested

Bottle Rocket is his weakest and least satisfying effort, imo. Still some great camerawork and dialogue.

Bottle Rocket might be my favorite.

What? What has she ever accomplished in her life that's so great?

I watched This is 40 yesterday morning.  I liked it.  I'm a sucker for Judd Apatow movies.  Not really ashamed either.  I know the movies are formulaic and a lot of the joke/references are a little tired, but i still laugh and i still think he does a good job of pulling at the heart strings just enough.

Canadian guy I know is staring down the barrel at 40, and found the movie to be depressing in many ways.  You guys don't know him.

I thought the movie was ok but like 10000x more depressing than funny (closer to 20 than 40, unlike your Canadian friend).  like "not at all a comedy" levels
Same with Funny People. Apatow likes to eff around emotionally with the audience a little too much

V/H/S is a really great horror movie. It's basically 5 short stories caught on tape by skype, hand held recorders, or google glasses. Each story was really unique and I think short stories are the best way to tell horror stories.

Wow just caught the last half of Queen of Versailles. It was like an episode of intervention where no one ever comes to help.

Chasing Mavericks -  Not a great movie but enjoyed it. Really pulls at the old heart strings and a true story about surfer Jay Moriarity. Worth watching. Great surfing action.
Watched bits of this on a plane this spring.  Found it absolutely horrible. personally.  Seemed way beneath Gerard Butler.  Everything about it seemed absurdly cliche.  I fell asleep 3/5 of the way through it.

Real life is cliche at times.

One of Gerard Butler's better efforts.

Lol, yes.

My favorite part was when they realize the kids might have to go to college and get jobs to support themselves.

Saw Iron Man last night.  Haven't seen either of the first two, but I liked this one quite a bit.

I thought Iron Man 3 could've been better. The whole middle part of the movie where he goes to Tenn. to solve the mystery of the Mandarin and the terrorist attacks is pointless-the audience knows and we have to follow Tony around for 45 minutes or so as he connects the dots. The Mandarin was really cool though. Gwenith Paltrow got to kick some ass.  I liked the general gibe of the movie- most 3rd movies keep the plot rolling and hit you with action scenes one after another. With this movie, there's a mystery element along with your standard superhero journey of self-discovery, mixed with humor.  It's better than IM2, behind the original IM, and definitely not better than Avengers.
