Anora - 5/7 it's fine and mikey madison played the character quite well but ugh, this is gen z pretty woman but instead of a charming richard gere we get an unlikable Russian douche and instead of a sweetheart hooker with a heart of gold we get a gullible dumbass.

This is like comparing The Godfather to Ocean's Thirteen.

the only similarities are rich guy and hooker get together. I'll make a similar comparison: Lion King and Lady and the Tramp are basically the same movie. Ridiculous.

I feel like waks is gaslighting.

Rich guy meets a lady who sells her body. He pays her to spend time with him, then pays her way more to spend way more time with him. Then he takes her to luxurious events. Then they both decide they actually like each other.

Which movie am I describing so far?

In this super unique movie, the protagonist lives an ordinary life in a familiar world. Then, something strange or mysterious happens that disrupts everything they've ever known. At first, they are skeptical of its implications and resist the change. But soon, with a mentor's guidance, they realize their potential and embrace their newfound purpose.

Am I describing The Matrix or Star Wars or Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings or The Lion King or Dune or any comic book movie to ever exist?

Pretty Woman and Anora have very similar first acts, but the point of each movie is wildly different.

The funny thing is that that being a Gen z pretty woman reboot is the best thing about anora. It's all the decisions to try and not be pretty woman that make this film meh.

Yeah I mean your first point is awful cause my description is how I’d actually describe Pretty Woman to someone if they were like “I’ve heard of that movie what happens again?”

The second point is accurate. But like 7 said I feel like the hard fork they take is just bleh and trying too hard to be different. Still great acting though.

Strawberry Mansion - A bunch of :raccoon:

A guy audits dreams for the government and falls down a rabbit hole when he meets some kooky old lady. It's a strange movie, brilliantly executed.

It legitimately pulls it off, imo. PEDs certainly recommended.

I’ve been going down a strange movie rabbit hole lately

The Fall (2006) is a fun epic. It's not as weird as most of what I've seen recently, but it will still speed by you if you get distracted by your phone. Some :raccoon: but mostly :star:s.  Worth a free trial of Mubi, which is chock-full of unique and fantastic content, imo

Has anyone seen Loudermilk?

I’m excited to see it just based on this scene alone:

https://youtu.be/rHHt-tYS2es?si=SQPVewcrLM3_DfiS
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Friendship is basically a mix of an ITYSL sketch and an episode of Detroiters. Not necessarily in plot, but in style of comedy and how based in reality it is.

TL;DR It's basically what you'd expect from a Tim Robinson feature length film.

Very good. Also glad it’s a classic easy-watching binger of a show rather than a movie

Friendship is the most I've ever laughed at a movie.  If you like Tim Robinson, it's a homerun.  Screenland in KC said they were the #1 theater for it in the midwest and #18 in the nation, which is a pretty good collection of sickos.

Eephus is a sweet ode to baseball.  My wife described it well as an inverse Sandlot.  If that's how a bunch of kids' baseball "careers" started, then Eephus is how they end.  It takes place over the course of one beer league baseball game.

Sinners ruled. KIND OF a game changer, I think....

I hope it's a game changer in more Original Storyies/Screenplays get picked up and made into movies.  Honestly, I think that's why it was so good.  Everything is a book, or a reboot it feels like.

I've never seen/heard music used like that in a movie. Just incredible. And for it to just be PART of the movie, not the whole focus, was wild.
Yes to both of you!

Watched this last weekend. Fun, new vampire movie. I don't think I've ever said that before. Maybe Interview with the Vampire but I cannot remember if that was good. I think it was.

I listened to the Sinners version of Will Ye Go, Lassie Go? at work today.

I was looking forward to Mountainhead. It was stupid, funny and relevant. It didn't meet expectations but it was what I should have expected for a straight to release movie. That being said, it wasn't bad. 4/7.
