I've never felt differently about a movie after a second viewing. Honestly I don't even see how it's possible.

Totally understandable, there are many people who do not appreciate the cinematic arts or critical thought and would prefer to zone out with temptation island.

Sometimes my expectations going in will give me a different experience than a second watch.

Wet Hot American Summer was a film i enjoyed more the 2nd time i saw it b/c i picked up on a bunch of silly gags that i missed the first time

did some oscars catchup today and finally got around to watching coda, licorice pizza, and drive my car.

went in figuring I’d love licorice pizza because pta + coming of age is wheelhouse, but it was my least favorite of these three. was thinking of spracs/this thread the whole time and was like “this is def no phantom thread”. kinda a mess tbh, felt like even by pta standards he was trying to jam too much in to frankly care about too many of the subplots. probably just too high of expectations going in.

drive my car was by far my fave of these three, pretty long at right about 3hrs and def wasn’t in a hurry - pacing pretty slow but was even.

While I liked CODA very much, I was surprised it won. Licorice Pizza & The Power of the Dog seemed more like movies that the Academy usually loves.
