There Will Be Blood (2007), directed by il maestro P.T.A. Starring an inimical Daniel Day-Lewis, Ciarán Hinds, and a bunch of also rans. The tale of one man's overweening ambition turned to greed, and his knowing descent into self-indulgent narcissism, with some righteous justice meted out on the way down. 7/7. One of my favorites.

Phantom Thread (2017). Directed by the maestro Paul Thomas Anderson. Starring Daniel Day-Lewis in the role that brought him out of retirement, only to again retire after the movie. It's the tale of a possibly autistic dressmaker in Britain in the 1950's and the unlikely love story he becomes intertwined with. I'll be honest, most of you cretins would not appreciate such an oeuvre as this. 5/7.
movie sucked ass

nobody actually liked that movie.  people just say they do to seem smart/cultured.

Also Paul Dano getting Eli because the guy who was cast didn't show up the day of the shoot so they turned the role into twin brothers.

This seems like a direct attack against me. I need to warn you that I was a state championship wrestler when I was in grade school.

i watched a bunch of movies lately

Beta Test -- Stupid.  Cheap ripoff of american psycho.
The Tragedy of Macbeth -- Fine.
Free Guy -- Kind of fun.
I Want You Back -- Great.  Highly recommended.
Nightmare Alley -- Decent.  Nauseatingly melodramatic in some parts, but that's kind of what they're going for.  Fun stuff for the most part.
Power of the Dog -- I kind of liked it.  Worth your while if you can stomach slow burn westerns.

Watched Clean the other night.  Kept my attention, but very bloody and violent.  Definitely had a Nobody vibe to it.

I have to disagree. I love Charlie Day and Jenny Slate is hilarious so I figured this would be the romcom that catered to those who also love irreverent humor but it was too much rom not enough com.

My 11 year-old and I thought The Batman kicked ass. It's like kinda detective/thriller/horror/action/superhero/noir/cyberpunk all rolled into one.

I liked it too and expected to hate it.

Best film to show Batman being the worlds greatest detective

100% agree. I watched it again for the first time since it came out and it is way better than I remember people said it was.

In cases like Dune, you need to always separate out the opinions of fan boys from casual observers.  Not that fan boys might not have good points, but they are invested in something that can never be captured in a film.

So as a casual, it sounds like I'm being told I should give it a try. I've put it on twice at bedtime but immediately fell asleep.
