Wreck It Ralph - 7/7

Live Action Aladin - 6/7

Uncut Gems - 6/7 but I'll never watch it again without a pound of Xanax at my disposal. Did you know Garnett's character was originally supposed to be Embiid?!?

1917 - 5.5/7 - one shot wasn't distracting except I had no idea how much time was supposed to have taken place, because it wasn't supposed to be 2 hours

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - 6/7

Irishman - I have no idea how to rate this movie. I thought the first two acts were fine but the third act is top fuckin notch. Also, I really wish they would have stuck with the original title "I Heard You Paint Houses"

I just listened to an interview on this. It was originally supposed to be Amare Stoudamire because the directors are huge Knicks fans, and Amare is Jewish so it had a whole other element to it.  but over time to have Amari's hair match the game footage he would've had to cut his dreds and he didn't want to do it.

Next they went with Joel Embiid, but it took too long and ended up getting in to the season and didn't work out, then they got to KG.

At one point Kobe Bryant's people were interested and they wrote up a script, but it didn't go anywhere.  I think Embiid probably does a great job in the role too and they had written in some stuff about reclaiming the gem for Africa which would've been an interesting story line. But I don't think it works just as well as the Game 7 and KG because anyone that follows the NBA knows how big that Celtics run was and it adds a bit.

Years ago I could and would watch the gut wrenching movies, but I no longer do.  I suppose only war movies are the exception for me.  I both loved the movie but hated watching Dunkirk and 1917, for example.

I have enough to deal with in life's little gauntlet of emotional distress without introducing new stuff on purpose! Also, I am a complete pussy in most all ways.

Not enough of you are talking about Jojo Rabbit. Best movie I've seen in years.

I think there needs to be a separate ranking system for the raccoons/stars a movie gets if you are watching it stark sober. I find some of these rankings quiet dubious, otherwise.

I liked the Irishman.  The acting by Pesci and Dinero was particularly good.

It sounds like you have a pretty good nose for it as is.

Watched The Gentleman this weekend.  Pretty entertaining.  Seemed like a more broadly accessible Guy Ritchie film.

Maybe stevesie should throw out his top 10 list for 2019

My top 5 would be:

1. Jojo Rabbit
2. Rewatching Jojo Rabbit
3. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
4. Uncut Gems
5. The Irishman

Everyone should go see Parasite. It finally came to a theater near me and it's an absolute masterpiece. Best Picture/Director imo

I thought it was interesting but just OK. Felt like it was trying to do a thing rather than tell a story. If that makes sense.

I agree with this take. Glad I saw it, I recommend it, but I'm not sure how it snuck into the "Best Picture" category.

Once Upon a Time ... In Hollywood

Fun to watch because of all the great actors and scenery. Long though, with a weird and random ass storyline (tarantino tho). Would watch again.

i really liked it within the context of his love for hollywood and film and wanting to rewrite a really ugly part of its past
i have a hard time sitting still for that long but didn't mind it a bit given his ability to tell a story.  even though i was 2 hours in wondering what the hell i was watching, i didn't mind it.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

I have (re)watched all of tarintinos movies over the last month.

I really hope someone convinces him to do a 10 episode limited tv series, I would love to see him run wild with backstories and character development.

I watched "Laundromat" on Netflix, and it's amusing but not great.  If you are bored, it will be a good use of time.  If you haven't seen a movie in quite a while, then look elsewhere for plenty of other movies that are way better than this.

Saw 1917. Thought it was shot incredibly well but the plot was boring. Also thought a couple of scenes were pretty silly/hard to believe. Liked Dunkirk more.

i watched Parasite (thank you delta) and i liked it. it's v good, probably overhyped a bit. not sure if it's worthy of a best picture nomination.

Have you seen Four Rooms?  It's a movie of four short films by famous directors (including Tarantino) with a common denominator is that all four scenes are at the same Hollywood hotel on New Years Eve.  "Misbehaving" involves a gangsters kids discovering a dead hooker....well, you get the idea.  Great movie.
