Saw the latest Mission Impossible. Meh. This reminded me of why I gave up watching Mission Impossible movies. I was bored and confused by all the double, triple, and quadruple cross puzzles in the first half (most of which involve the cop out of being able to wear somebody else's face) plus the tediously long expositions to "explain" them. The second half settles into a standard action movie where you know who the good guys and bad guys are. The action scenes were fun but I wouldn't waste money to watch this in a theater. Rent it.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

Movies that are fun to watch. Almost all genres (not a big horror or rom-com fan). A few examples for no particular reason....

Mad Max Fury Road was great because it made no excuses for being a mindless action flick - it was just a really good mindless action flick. The Guardians or the Galaxy and Deadpool movies are just dumb comedy/action flicks but they're fun to watch.

Get Out might have been a complete ripoff of other stories but it was really funny in a dark way.

Star Wars: Rogue One Good. Star Wars: Force Awaken Good. Star Wars: Last Jedi Bad. Star Wars: Solo Meh.

Almost anything with Sam Rockwell, good (check out Moon).

One of my favorite genres is end-of-world or post-apocalyptic stuff. Check out These Final Hours, The Road, and Children of Men for gut-wrenching. Check out The Domestics and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World for more action/comedy.

Bridesmaids, hilarious - New Ghostbusters, garbage.

Thor: Ragnorak, really good and funny - Thor (2011), pretty crapty.

Just wondering, your reviews are almost always negative. I suffer the opposite affliction and rarely rate anything below a 4/7

Reminds me of Will Ferrell and Jerry Seinfeld discussing if "film," "movie" or "picture" was most pretentious.

I think most the ones I just listed I have positively reviewed in this thread.

Have you guys seen The Way, Way Back?  I love that movie.  Such a great feel good movie.  KSUW's mention of Sam Rockwell is what made me think of it.  I love his character in The Way, Way Back.  So if you haven't seen The Way, Way Back check out The Way, Way Back.

As a matter of fact 33, I have seen that movie.  Check out my review of it from the mists of time:

The Way Way Back

Cast was good. I enjoyed how Steve Carell showed off some versatility by being an unlikeable prick. Sam Rockwell was his usual stud underrated self.  The kid who played Duncan really embraced his role as an awkward semi-loserish self but was still believeable when he became a semi-confident semi-stud at the end.

Way way back is way good.

My favorite Rockwell flick is Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.  I thought he was fine in 3 Billboards but has more deserving performances.

I liked the movie, but it was pure fantasy; due to the unreal fact that there were more whites than blacks on death row in the 30th's. :fatty:

The Shape of Water (2017) - 4/7 it's beautiful, it has great casting, but it's really on the nose. but i guess that's mostly because it's a very simple classic story. richard jenkins might be the most underrated actor of his generation. i mean we all loved him in there's something about mary/step brothers, and he even had some good scenes in rumor has it, but now we have bone tomahawk and shape of water, and now i'm wondering if he's ever not been awesome. will have to investigate further.
also del toro did that thing that is starting to really bother me, which is work the film industry into the plot somehow (in this case, have the protagonists live above a movie theater). it's a pretty blatant (and evidently effective) way to get critics to universally JO a movie. like on its own there's nothing wrong with that, but it's becoming too common and i'm just getting tired of it.

The Lobster (2015) - 3.5/7 oh boy did i want to love this one. it's been on my list for quite a while. it was very interesting and i laughed several times, but ultimately it's like too weird for its own good.  :frown:

Bo Burnham's movie is great.  Thrilled for him.
