The director says it's the rebirth thing.

Quote
So obviously the red rocks and mud that [Sandra] pulls herself up onto [after she lands] was an intentional nod to the rebirth idea?

Well yes, more literally there. She's in these murky waters almost like an amniotic fluid or a primordial soup. In which you see amphibians swimming. She crawls out of the water, not unlike early creatures in evolution. And then she goes on all fours. And after going on all fours she's a bit curved until she is completely erect. It was the evolution of life in one, quick shot.

The Ritual  :ohno:  would recommend to a friend.

Not too much gore, good suspense, couple jump scenes.  It kept me guessing till the reveal, good ending.

The Ritual  :ohno:

I watched that last weekend. It was bad but I only slightly regret dedicating a couple hours to it.

The Conjuring is also available on Netflix. Watch it before you watch The Ritual if you want a scary movie.

I have not seen The Conjuring.  I'll have to give it a go.

I’ve wanted to see Arrival since I saw previews for it.  I just finished it.  I was told I would need to watch it twice to figure it out.  Maybe my love of physics and the universe helped or I could see the future, but I get it.

Man, what a great movie.  I wish I would have watched it sooner.  Everything about it I loved.  From the psychological aspect of looting because of impending world destruction.  To the governments of the world response, which was very realistic.

Everything I thought it would be, it was.  I can’t believe I waited this long to watch it.

So just so Spracne feels better, I got chastised for expressing this same feeling to a family member.  It was for knowing in their words “too much about science” so I hope you’re rough ridin' happy ass hole.

As an optimist I think she was alive

iirc when she landed on the beach, her legs were all wobbly due to having been in space for an extended amount of time. seems like a weird detail to include if the filmmakers were trying to hint that she was dead. will probably watch again, i really enjoyed that one.

If it gets re-run at an IMAX 3-D theater, you have to go.  They filmed it to be shown in 3-D, made a great movie spectacular.

Agreed.  This was a rare film where the 3-D significantly enhanced the experience.

Wind River is now on Netflix.  It's a fantastic modern western.  Taylor Sheridan has now directed 3 really good movies!

put Spotlight on NF while working this afternoon.  Great, great movie.  I lived in Boston during it and remember tons of that blowing up and the general weird feelings it created.

Enjoyed Deadpool on my short flight today. Holy crap. Why did I skip that movie when it was on Netflix? Couldn't stop laughing.

i saw Three Billboards and the Shape of Water this weekend in time for the oscars.

somehow i had no idea what Three Billboards was about going into it, i managed to not ever see a trailer or any meaningful discussion about it. WOW what a dark movie. i was uncomfortable throughout the the whole thing. funny at times, obviously, which is what it was going for. but the whole time i was just scared about what next shitty thing the next shitty person was going to do. the oscars that mcdormand and rockwell won were deserved.

SoW was weird. i'm trying to wrap my brain around the girl rough ridin' the fish man.
