Appeased my girlfriend by seeing "Winters Tale" and "About Last Night" this weekend.  While neither were absolutely terrible, they weren't worth the money we paid to see it.  Avoid these until redbox if your lady insists on watching them.

You need to tell your girlfriend about rotten tomatoes...

Trust me, that's my go to. . .but she is a staunch believer that critics are generally wrong and bash "good movies".  I tend to trust the user ratings on RT. . .but those were too high for those two movies in my opinion.

RT can be misleading especially w/r/t comedies.  However, for "serious" movies, I can feel 99% confident that a movie w/ a 17% rating on RT is pretty, well, rotten.  I worry about user ratings for major blockbusters, because studios that have invested tons of money into films also have huge marketing budgets, and user reviews are a part of online marketing.

"Gravity" is more of a great experience than a great movie. After it's out of theaters, everyone will forget about it.

i just watched it for the first time last night, at home, and i was pretty impressed. lots of intensity all the way through.

Saw Monuments Men last night.  It was a cool homage to the real life people involved in saving art during the war.  Not the best movie ever, but has a like able cast. . .so I do recommend.

the silence - it's like german or some other foreign language so it's subtitled.  camerawork/visuals in this thing were amazing.  acting was terrible.  usually it's difficult to gauge foreign actors, but these people clearly sucked.  story was an -a.

worth seeing tho, on netflix now.

Nebraska - Very funny in the Independent-film-type-of-humor way. Lots of dry stuff. Saul Goodman and Buzz McCallister are both in it, too!

This is probably the best I have ever done in watching almost all of the nominees for movie of the year pre-oscars. Didn't get to Captain Philips, or Philomena tho.

watching the oscars would be such a terrible waste of the best night in television.

I said it was an amazing experience, just not a great movie. Love the visuals. Made you feel cold and alone the entire movie. But the plot was really, really simple.
