Words Words Words - Definitely not as good as "what." and it is absolutely ridiculous to think so. I don't really like his songs where he raps the verses with a bunch of vulgar play on words. He's very talented to be able to write and perform it, don't get me wrong. It just doesn't know anything for me. The only things I really enjoyed were the stats, the bit at the movie theater when he has snare and cymbal on stage, and when he makes fun of traditional stand up comedy.

I really think "what." is going to change the way stand up comedy is done. It's just such a performance, and can't even be compared to other stand-up acts, whereas "Words Words Words" is definitely not traditional stand up, but it's nowhere near as far as removed as "what."

That's fair.  It's clear to me that we like two different things about Bo.  I know this is going to come across as snobbish, and I don't mean it to, but I've really been a fan of Bo since about 2006 when he started doing some silly songs on youtube, so for me, he's always been the guy who does hilarious, clever upbeat songs that include a whole bunch of plays on words, and up until "What." that's always what it's been. And in that respect, Words Words Words blows What. out of the water.  My favorite part of What. is "repeat stuff," as that's what is really closest to what he's always done.

Words Words Words (the song), Oh Bo, and What's Funny, for me, cannot be beat.  I also really liked the Shakespeare stuff. It's mostly lighthearted and there are really an unbelievable amount of plays on words.

In short, like I said, we just appreciate two different aspects of Bo, and he's very good at both.  But selfishly, I hope he gets back to "his roots."

I compared it to when Blink-182 made their self-titled album. They had obviously taken a huge leap in maturity between "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket" and that. A lot of people who grew up loving the Blink-182 that streaked in their music videos and had songs about their grandpa eating 7 hot dogs and thus defecating in his pants did not care for the self-titled album, even though a new crowd loved it and was very accepting of it. Neither are wrong, they just like different things.

i take issue with your characterization of Words Words Words as childish, just as i'm sure you would take issue with me characterizing What. as self-indulgent and pretentious.

All the early Blink-182 albums were brilliant in their own way. But now I'm upset that you called "what." self-indulgent and pretentious.

Yeah definitely.  I could sit down and talk to some one for hours about the movie.

I thought it was alright.  Not great, but definitely not awful.

Great back and forth between Stevesie and Dlew on Bo! Really enjoyed that.

Just finished watching 12 Years A Slave. Powerful and profoundly sad, but so well done. Will hopefully get to watch Her tomorrow.

For the Lone Survivor folks...

I started the book but haven't made it very far...am I doing myself a disservice to watch the movie first?

well i did not care about any of the characters at all, so i think that's the filmmakers' fault. i enjoyed the hunter s. thompson-like feel of the first 20 minutes or so, but that evaporated as the movie went along.

I've not read the book, but saw the movie.   At this point, unless I find out there is substantially more in the book worth reading, I probably won't bother.  I've heard mixed reviews on the book, a lot of it as being a bit overdramatized as the author was a fiction writer.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.  Absolutely awful. Doofy as hell with absurd splatter gore. would be fun to sit around with your buds while drunk and talking just to have some splatter in the background.

Promised Land

Very meh.  Frances McDormand is an absolute treasure as usual tho.  Ending was very predictable, where guy working for an "evil" company grows a conscience and turns against evil company.

GAPING PLOT HOLE:  Matt Damon's character grew up on a farm but doesn't know how to drive a stick?!?

With a serious gf maybe... I think it would be a pretty rough early date movie though.  It's pretty serious and dark at points and doesn't quite have a clean happy resolution.

If you were to watch Man with the Iron Fists, you would see and hear russell crowe refer to his dong as "the baby's arm".
