PIG (2021) - 6/7 - Like the animal itself, Pig defies the hogwash of expectations with a beautiful odyssey of loss and love anchored by Nicolas Cage's affectingly raw performance. Pig is fundamentally a story about the hold that memories have on us: memories of those we've lost, of dreams abandoned, of the good times (rare though they may have been). And this story seems to have reawakened Cage himself. Pivoting away from the recent eccentric outings of genre b-films, Cage reminds us of the subdued talent he has within a particular scope, taking us back to his days of "Leaving Las Vegas," "Valley Girl," and "Moonstruck."
