Will be interesting to see how far they regress post-Self and how they react to it. Their run has been otherworldy.

Like NU in football back in the day before the landscape changed, they had a nice run.

Excellent comp, KU from 05-22 was basically NU football from 90-01 but with one less natty and a couple of more conference titles.

KSU, Iowa State, KU, and Okie State adjusted pretty well when the conference went from the Big 8 to the Big 12.  I think Texas, and maybe TCU were schools that brought competitive basketball teams to the conference, but not threatening enough to really disrupt K-State's, KU's, Iowa State's, and Okie State's ability to compete for conference titles.

With expansion bringing Arizona and Houston, KU's challenge to maintain conference dominance will be more challenging than the initial Big 8 / SWC merger.  KU fans have to be feeling a bit on edge - their model of recruiting can now be used by everyone now that NIL is in place.  That, and Massa Seff's recent hospitalization on a heart issue, has to be making their fans wonder if that program is in its decline.

Self has gone the lazy route multiple times with guys like Cliff alexander and Selby?

Always thought that those are the guys that they're paying to bring in and then they're a mess because Self et al didn't really get to vet them.

Self's best teams have always been built on guys who have been in the program a long time and then they'll cherry pick/pay an instant impact guy.

Exception being their recent title when they brought in the guard from Az St and that one worked out.

But yes, it's getting hard now that everyone can do it and there's plenty of schools that have the same war chest.

Speaking of NIL, a story I heard through someone who may be connected enough to know the guy who heads up the KU NIL cooperative; 
There was a meeting with all the KU head coaches, so Leipold, WBB, BSB are all around the table - Self comes in late and immediately points at each in turn and says "I want your rough ridin' money and I want your rough ridin' money..." and "It's all going to the basketball team".  I fully believe that Self and ethics are acquainted only through coincidence, but being that much of a dickhead is a stretch. 

On second thought, I believe it and he's a total prick.

Has the game has passed him by?  Maybe his indulgence in booze, Johnny's fried pickles and loose coed women have caused a reckoning he hasn't been able to overcome?  I :pray: he was better and he had a come to Jesus moment?  And listen, I don't judge because we all have our vices but maybe his were\are some that won't hide that beet red face for long?  It's a shame. :ohno:.  I'm going to go back and review those technicals he had to see if It was in fact shitty Big 12 reffing or a relapse.  If you don't hear from me soon I will be at the local church lighting a candle for him.
