I know it won't happen, but it would be amazing if they ran off Bill Self.

It would be double amazing if Self then went to Indiana and won a NC.

I feel like their amazing run of purchased dominance is coming to an end though.

Indiana is never going to win a championship again. They're essentially Nebraska football, but in worse shape.

Does Nebraska have a Marc Cuban?

Indiana will win a NC within a decade.

What? Do you have any idea how long ago 1987 was?

You'd have to put every single school on this list before you would Indiana.
Gonzaga
Baylor
Texas Tech
West Virginia
UCLA
Oregon
Alabama
Kentucky
Florida
Arkansas
Michigan
Illinois
Ohio State
Michigan State
Virginia
North Carolina
Duke
Florida State
Houston
Creighton
Villanova
UConn

I'm not even adding the programs clearly better but have NCAA issues looming, Kansas and Arizona. I'm also not adding schools I think have been consistently better than Indiana in the life of current high school and college students like Louisville, Memphis, Wichita State, USC, Iowa, Wisconsin, Texas, Oklahoma, and Syracuse.

Right now they don't have either the program or the coach. Even if they get Belein I still don't know if I would guarantee they are going to win a championship in a decade, he didn't at Michigan and he's 68 years old now, he isn't going to be coaching in a decade. They better throw all that Cuban money at Porter Mosier and hope he isn't a bust.

I mean, Texas rough ridin' Tech went to the E8 in year 2, and the Natty in year 3 with Beard.

College basketball programs can flip in just a couple years with the right hire.

All but a few P5's (the ones that can't keep the right coach for more than 1 or 2 years) can win a Natty in the next 10 years.

he donates almost nothing to the university though. and zero to sports. it enrages them. I don't believe he will leave them anything either.

Apparently Cuban didn't either, until he had to, that's if he even did so now.

What self-respecting AD would sign off on such a corrupt self-pardon (pun intended) ... oh, never mind.

Likelihood they can get someone better than Self is pretty low, slugging out sanctions doesn't seem like a bad plan aside from the fact that the NCAA can easily blow it up.

NCAA can't do that. Even if they hit him with a show cause that just means someone else can't hire him. Dan Mullen is under a show cause right now that he got hit with while at Florida.

Some sort of multiple year post season ban would kind of blow it up. At least I'd assume that would be the outcome, but maybe Self would be okay with that and try and work in a backdoor way to win NITs?

I guess I don't know what "blow it up" means. Even with a multi year post season ban, I think the combination of Self and KU will be back. It will never be what it was, but they won't be Indiana as long as he's there because he's the right coach. I don't think that Townsend "retiring" will do much to stop them from being a contender in most years.

Can they attend NITs with a post season ban?

Quote
Goff's first big task will be to set the course for a moribund football program already going through spring practice under wide receivers coach Emmett Jones, picked to serve as the interim coach last month.

The downtrodden Jayhawks lost all nine of their games last season. They have not had a winning season since Mark Mangino was on the sideline in 2008, cycling through Turner Gill, Charlie Weis, interim coach Clint Bowen, David Beaty and Miles without finding a way to return to prominence.

Goff is expected to lead the search for the next football coach, though the timeline for that hiring remains unclear.

Along with deep-seated fan apathy, the Jayhawks have some of the worst facilities in the Big 12 -- despite a new indoor practice facility -- and have struggled for years to generate money and support to upgrade Memorial Stadium.

Goff also must deal with potential NCAA sanctions facing the Jayhawks' storied basketball program.

The program was hit with five Level I charges tied to recruiting, one directed at Self, as part of the fallout of an FBI investigation into college basketball corruption. Kansas has staunchly defended itself against the allegations, and the case is going through the NCAA's new independent appeals process, with a decision expected later this year.

"Travis understands the challenges we face and the changing landscape of collegiate athletics," Kansas Chancellor Doug Girod said. "At the same time, he is well-positioned to help us build on our recent successes in student-athlete health care, diversity and inclusion, and student-athlete academic achievement. The fact that he is a Jayhawk is an added bonus."

Goff: I want the job but how can I be absolved for never firing Self?
I once blew clove smoke in a guy's face that cut in front of me in the line to KJ's.
