Pete and Canary. Two fantastic gentlemen.
Thanks. You are at least half right.
Hahaha

This is serendipitous, because I was just talking to my wife about how I didn't know how I was going to get these winnings....and I was NOT interested in heading out to Vegas for a weekend thing or anything like that at this point...maybe in a year or so, but not good timing for me right now.   ;)

This thread is too long for me to piece together useful info for this: I'm flying in and out of their airport and only staying in the city overnight (en route to the national park loop). I want to stay on the strip so I can walk around, look at crap there, and eat. Any hotel recommendations? Tips? How do I help ensure that I won't be in a gross room?

If you are just staying one night have you considered just checking your bag at any of the casinos with the concierge?  Then you can move about freely and just collect your bag when you are ready to head back to the airport.  I'm not sure what they would charge if you are not a guest,  I flew in early morning and couldn't check in until late afternoon.  They just held my bag for about seven hours.
Man, I love that city.

I am going to stay at Paris because it is obviously the cleanest and the fanciest and one of the least expensive and not gross at all and also has all of the coolest stuff.

Checking your bags is free... Just tell them you are checking into the hotel and go get them the next day. Just tip a few bucks on both sides.

If doing a hotel, go flamingo if you just want a cheap good location room. Stay at Cosmo or Aria for a good room in a good location.

The Paris has two of my favorite eating spots, both very pricey, but worth it to me.  Mon Ami Gabi has a great menu, and the Eiffel Tower Restaurant is a great place to eat and look out for a nice evening meal.  It will set you back about $100 for a basic meal with no alcohol.

One of my issues is with understanding the rates. Flamingo says $35. Everything I've ever learned in life tells me this means that many gross things happen in those rooms. I'll check out the other two.

I can rarely understand the rates as well.

I just read about resort fees. I hope resort fees have been discussed in this thread.

My last stay was three nights.  The resort fees totaled $59 and I am not sure what they were for.  You have to pay those up front.
I just figure when I go to Vegas the cost will never be what the promotions say it will be.  I don't check a bag for flying, and still sometimes have to pay for specific seating on some flights.  I plan at least $150 more than I originally think I will spend to get and stay there.

Resort fees suck. You will pay them everywhere and won't be told about it in your quoted rate. It's a real screw job. Usually covers wifi, gym....

If you had to pick between staying at the Bellagio, Aria, or Vdara, which one would you stay at and why?

Bellagio.  Closer to the strip.  Never stayed at Vdara though.

Probably Aria or Vdara because they are newer and I have not really done much in city center.  But it is more isolated, which also doesn't matter a lot because of the tram, but also is a bit more of a pain because of the walking around the grounds just to get to the strip.
