alcohol
« on: September 12, 2018, 02:51:02 PM »
I just went a full 7 days without any alcohol for the first time in probably a decade. I don't have booze every day but usually have a drink or two a couple days a week and like 8+ drinks a couple days a week. probably ever since college. anyway, I feel like I should be seeing more gains but so far nothing out of the ordinary. is steroids the solution instead of stopping booze?

I haven’t had any since late Saturday night. Probably one of three times in the last few years I’ve gone so long. Very few gains thus far, think it’s a hoax.

Edit: I had a single beer during the Chiefs game Sunday, so it’s probably only been 70 hours.

I think the alcohol/gains thing is a total myth, but I also think it depends on genetics. When I lost 25 lbs this year, I think I had booze drinks Thursday-Saturday. The key to it for me, was soda and vodka tho.

Usually when you ditch the sauce, you add food to take its place.  Your stomach needs something to do most all of the time.  It naturally prefers delicious booze but will settle for food if you are being a jerk to it.

If you're trying to lose weight, alcohol is a good thing to cut since it has zero nutritional value and doesn't even fill your stomach (in fact I think it tends to trigger hunger).  But unless you're drinking a ton, the booze itself is a pretty small amount of your overall calorie intake.  You're talking like 100-300 calories a drink as long as you're not throwing in a super sugary mixer.

On a 2500 calorie daily intake, you could drink an entire case of Natty and still have 220 calories left over for whatever delicious food items you desire.

Yeah, so it's just an extra 1000-3000 cals a day, NBD

I would suggest seeking help if you think 10 drinks a day does not qualify as drinking a ton.
