R.I.P Dana. Saw this thread bumped and actually got excited for a possible Dimel return for a bit.

As sports fans we can be crass, throw tantrums, etc. over wins and losses, strategy, recruiting and more, but the positive impact so many of these longtime coaches have and have had on young people’s lives over decades is almost immeasurable. And a lot of them started doing it before coaching, even at the college level, was any sort of a big money game, especially at the assistant level.

A good friend of mine who worked at a bar/restaurant in MHK for a long time that Dimel and his family frequented really humanized him for me shortly after he left KSU for the final time.

Lord, have mercy. And prayers for the Dimel family and those close to him.

On a football note, Dana (and Del when they were together) had the 90th, 23rd, 26th, 6th, 16th, 11th, 60th, 35th and 44th most potent offenses in college football from a ppd perspective from 2009-2017 respectively.

I imagine that 60th ranking is 2015 with Bazooka Joe. Take a look at that roster again. The fact that the staff made it to a bowl game (especially given the QB spot) is one of their greatest coaching achievements.

Yep, and the 90th was with a one-armed Grant Gregory.

I was watching that video compilation that has every TD from stra16gt the other night and it was crazy to see all of the Bazooka Joe and Winston Dimel TDs in the Dillons. Was 2015 the year when Kody Cook played QB?

Yes... Ertz went down on the first play of the first game, then Delton got hurt in the second game, then Joe wasn't great and then Cook came in and played QB at the end of the year

The problem with Cook at QB was that he was also our best WR.

Definitely not the time and place for this, but I think it's worth having a conversation about whether or not you'd go in your sleep, without warning, or go when you know it's going to happen and you get a chance to say goodbye and do whatever else
