Good thread. I was 11 or 12. The first player I remember really enjoying and following was the Sarge.

Perfect thread, fellas! I was born in Manhattan, KS and I vaguely remember mom getting excited about meeting Mitch Richmond. However, I believe I was 8 when it really hit me. '92-93. We lived in Colorado and I had a friend who liked the Buffs. I had a K-State troll doll that i'd sit in front of the TV for all of the games.

Like this, but super creepier and with old school wildcat Tom

the first time I had a physical reaction was when I got out of school.  I was listening to the start of a Nebraska ksu football game on the radio  and got the chills, it really surprised me and a tear came to my eye.

BTW, it was the mid nineties before it I got interested.  I love the school, but couldn't stand KSU being a shitty ass Basketball school.  Hated being as bad as KU in football and KU fans talking crap during BB season.

8.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Eight years old. Chad May beating KU in Manhattan, which was no sure thing at the time. I was hooked. In retrospect, that game was boring af, but beating KU meant everything at the time. Grew up in Lawrence, and I mushed a lot of rough ridin' faces the next Monday at school. I remember watching the game against Purdue at bramlage when I was like four, and I tried to care, but it was a bit forced, I just wasn't old enough to get why it mattered.

Wait, wasn't that guy in the WWE years ago.   :surprised:

Norris Coleman. He was sort of a bridge (along with Kruger) from the old days of K-State basketball to the new. A Hartman recruit who spend 5 years in the army before coming on campus. He was stellar during Hartman's last year (85-86 season) on a pretty bad team and then was ruled ineligible after the season because he didn't meet minimum HS requirements for the NCAA. He was supposed to be suspended for a season and for a while it looked like he was going to leave K-State, but he chose to stay. Then the NCAA reduced his suspension from 1 year to 12 games and he joined with first year Mitch Richmond in Kruger's first year to lead the team to the tournament. Then he left K-State early (he was 26 by that point) to go pro and spent one year with the Clippers after being drafted before going playing overseas. He is the first K-State player of any sport that I remember following/watching to any extent and my interest in K-State started while watching him play. The Elite 8 run the next year in 1988 drew me in even more, and the first year I remember really following K-State on a regular basis was in 1988-89. The rest is history. FWIW, the first K-State football game I remember listening to was the 17-17 tie with KU in 1987 which was during the same time period. I can still remember being in my room and hearing the game winning FG attempt being blocked like it was yesterday.

10 or 11.  Was a fan before, but that was around when I held my breath during games.  90-91. Somewhere in there.
