But in any event, why is phoniness being implied as a negative trait?

Could you defend and agree with a phony character.
Yes. I don't care. It's all theater. My decision has nothing to do with perceived phoniness. They're all phony. I just think he's the guy.

Why???
Because (a) I dont think the President does very much, except (b) is occasionally called upon to make important decisions at 3 A.M., and (c) I think he's the brightest of the bunch.
That's a pretty dim view of what the President does.

Personally I dngaf if a president is phony or not.  I do like genuine candidates because it gives me confidence they're going to set out to accomplish things on their platform.  But if I think someone is going to try to pass healthcare reform purely for their own ego and legacy vs. for the good of the American people, I really couldn't care less as long as I think they're equipped to get it done.

Do you also think the cabinet and appointees don't do anything?

Yeah but why can't the smart, accountable people run for office?  I'm guessing they don't want to, but it sucks that you have to hope the turd on a stick you voted for will surround himself with way better people.

EDIT:  OR HERSELF …  calm down MIR

Obama was a smart accountable person who surrounded himself with smart people. It happens. Mostly it happens with moderates like Obama though. My biased opinion is that anyone living on the fringe is going to surround themselves with others on the fringe and that doesn’t equal smart and accountable in the majority of instances.

This was probably my fav debate so far. Mostly shook out as expected with Warren on the offensive trying to breathe some life back into her campaign and Pete vs Klo competing against each other for the center. Might have been reading too much into it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Warren intentionally was soft on Klo in the hopes of getting some of Warren’s voters back from her. Bernie and Pete seemed the same as always.

Biggest surprise was probably how unprepared Bloomberg seemed for some questions he absolutely knew he would get. Like he had no idea what to say about the former female employee NDA thing when that had been widely reported leading up to last night.

Some fringes are better than others.

Also I think how a campaign is run can give some insight. Like, Pete has done a fantastic job to get where he is and has surrounded himself with smart people but it seems like they're really gross smart people who lack moral boundaries more than most. And I don't think he's the only candidate with smart people working for them.

Liz and Bernie:  A Festivus Airing of the Grievances the whole year through.

That's really all they have.

Bernie was like the one person Warren didn't go after. There's not much reason to go after Bernie. He isn't going to be gaining or losing any voters. He's the Trump of 2020.

I most remember Warren brutalizing Bloomberg. After that, I remember Pete and Klob trying and failing to punch each other several times and ultimately just looking weird and awkward.

Haha. Good tweet. Yeah it was almost as if they were both instructed by their campaigns to take each other out but didn’t particularly have the desire or preparation to really do it.

I didn't watch, did Bernie and Liz go ar each other? Or mainly just Bloomberg and Pete?

Everyone went after Bloomberg. Liz and Bern by far the most. Then probably Biden.

Liz and Pete had some jabs back and forth about Liz’s plans being polarizing and unrealistic and Pete’s being uninspired or too accommodating to the rich.

Very little between Bernie and Liz. He really has no reason to go after her, and Liz was just trying to become relevant again. Bloomberg was a perfect target for that.

I watched most of the debate last night although, full disclosure, I put some of Liz on mute because - like Hillary, there's just something in that screechy voice that triggers me. But I love the way she raises her hand at every question!

A few quick takes....

I thought the moderators were ok and actually asked some decent questions.

If you want to see how a political party utterly consumed with the victim identity politics of race, gender, sexuality and income devours itself, look no further than the dumpster fire that was last night's debate. They might as well have set up a guillotine on stage. As a conservative, it's amazingly entertaining (with appropriate use of mute button for Liz).

This is the first time I really watched/listened to Bernie Sanders for a prolonged period - not just little clips. He is a living, breathing (I assume) cartoon character. Much more so than Donald Trump (and that's hard to believe). There is absolutely no way America elects this communist muppet to be president. If the Don is still looking for a cute nickname, may I suggest The Commie Muppet. This is the contest conservatives and America should relish, The Don v. The Bern. Dems, are you realy so batshit crazy that you're going to nominate a socialist... in this economy? I think you are!

My goodness, how was Mini Mike so utterly unprepared for all those attacks?

I haven’t watched much of Elena besides last night, but I didn’t find her “lady shrill” at all. I don’t think this has anything to do with being a woman, there’s just something I can’t quite put my finger on about listening to Liz and Hil. Something in the speed, cadence, timbre. I don’t know what it is, but it feels like every word they say is so.... insistent that I hear them out because everything they have to say is so important even though it’s mostly inane bullshit.
