These people: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/will-there-be-a-moderate-lane-in-the-2020-democratic-primary/

bacon basically argues that a) half of the dem electorate is moderate or conservative and b) that voters don't usually vote along (self-described) ideological axes.  he also states in that article that biden might be ideally placed to form a coalition among (self-described) non-liberals.

other than the title being phrased as a question, i don't see much, if anything, there that supports your assertion.

i'll add (more to rage than to you) that while buttigieg is ideologically placed among the moderates, and he has been clearly trying to reposition himself further to the right, afaik, most of his support still comes from (self-described) liberals.

My assertion was that the perception from the outset was that the odds are against a moderate candidate winning the democratic primary. That’s exactly what the article is about.

bacon's article sets up that argument as "if you follow politics through cable news, or via twitter...".

it is setting that up not as a predominant view but as a misunderstanding based on how one might be inadvertently filtering perceptions of the electorate.
"experienced commanders will simply be smeared and will actually go to the meat."

His supporter will likely pivot to Bernie.

I don’t really see Beto being a great VP candidate.

or Liz. to battle the obvious Biden/Pete ticket. Really it's just down to who blinks or dies first between liz and bern.

So I'm currently at an event called The Liberty and Justice Celebration. Most of the candidates are here, no crazy Gabbard. The Beto people, volunteers & employees, had no idea he was dropping. There are Beto signs everywhere, the arena is split into supporter sections and the Beto section is decorated. Those people have been standing in the rain outside the arena all afternoon, I feel awful for them, it's devastating.  BTW I'm in the Pete section, his campaign invited me.

I've seen one yang supporter and he looks exactly like you'd imagine he would, dude was a young 20 something dressed like Captain America and he has $1000 sharpied on the CA shield.

There are 15,000 people here and it's starting, pics and a report later.

Not sure why but Biden's section has had all of their supporter signs removed and it's completely empty. The picture is of his section.

BotEdgeEdge has the most supporters, by far and the loudest.

The Police is the surprise of the night, her section is huge. Lil Klo has a lot as does Warren. Booker has more people here than Biden and Sanders combined. Yang Gang has a few hundred, everyone else is meh.

Actual impressive showing by the police. She paying people to be here? I think if all these people were polled she'd double her numbers.

 at Biden/Booti  ticket, no black support for either which is probably why Booti's people invited MIR to sit with them.

There are a larger percentage of black people in this section than black people in Iowa. I was surprised too.

The Yang Gang are acting the damn fool. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire section gets thrown out. The speakers to this point, Iowa Democratic Party employees, have been boring as hell, but they keep interrupting. One dude just yelled "we don't give a damn!"
