Sys, I saw a tweet likening Bernie '16 to Santorum '12. Santorum was the "conservative" candidate to oppose Romney and got like 20% primary votes and won a handful of states. In '16 with a large field he got under 1 percent of primary votes.

I think Santorum or someone like him will make a strong showing in 2024. The republicans are sure to reflect on what has happened at some point and decide that they strayed too far from their core Christian values when they decided Donald Trump was the right man for president.

Yeah, I don't expect that low either, but the large field will definitely hurt him.

Also when you Google Bernie 2020 the first result is an ad for Warren 2020

like, traditionally, candidates drop out of primaries pretty quick, mostly because they run out of money.  i'm not sure candidates are going to run out of money so fast in 2020.

Those numbers are shockingly far from the 100%s I was expecting

I am super excited that Bernie is officially in the race. He’s like the Dem version of Dr. Ron Paul in terms of annoying the other Dems and damaging their primary, but much more entertaining. Yes please!

Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren.... My gawd the liberals are going to absolutely piss away money this primary. Man it’s gonna be fun watching them try to out-crazy each other.

Ok, anyway, I have to acknowledge I can’t objectively evaluate this field. Progressivism is just too foreign a concept for my right-wing brain. For example, I cannot even fathom any of the foregoing clowns beating Trump (and that’s saying something, because I don’t have a high opinion of Trump).

During the 2016 GOP primary, I saw several candidates who I thought could both win the primary and the general. Trump wasn’t one of them, so that’s another strike against me. But I thought we had a handful of strong candidates that would do quite well against Hillary.

So give me your honest opinion, libs. Who do you think have the best shot of winning the primary, and who do you think is the best matchup for Trump. Please don’t cite any of the bullshit polling - it’s worthless. I want your gut take as a liberal. I’m not gonna laugh at you. Do you want a moderate, and if so who is that and how do they win the primary? Do you want a liberal champion? How do you figure someone on the far left winning the general?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

I think Kamala would be the strongest candidate in the general election. I think her proposal give low income earners an extra $6,000 per year would be an interesting social experiment to see if Trump's base likes money more than racism and misogyny. My gut tells me Beto comes out of the primaries, though. No real reason there. I don't like Trump's chances against anyone.

I think you’re forgetting that Trump’s base, despite being very poor overall, see themselves as a couple years away from being very rich and therefore resent poor people getting any kind of handouts from the hard earned millions they’re about to hard earn but haven’t hard earned yet.

$500 per month covers rent for a lot of them. It is a huge pay increase. I don't think they will be able to easily brush it aside. They will consider it a hand up, while still considering most other government programs hand outs.

1) harris.
2) brown.
3) i'd prolly prefer beto.  not sure who you consider moderate and who you don't (for my purposes here, call moderates: biden, booker, klobuchar and some western gov or senator).  if biden runs, he prolly just has to not eff up and not look too old (i don't think he will run).  if booker consolidates the black vote he probably wins.  klobuchar has to win iowa and then be the only moderate left standing.  the anon westerner has to do the same but prolly can't.
4) dunno what that means.
5) sanders or warren would probably have the same strategy as any other dem, except sanders would maybe lean heavier on the upper midwest.

most people think his political personality challenge is convincing people that he actually is a giant goofy ball of hugs and not a slick politician pretending to be the friendliest person in the world.
