Doyel hits it out of the park.

pretty good.  re-tread because he ran out of ideas, but pretty good.

His biggest mistake was including Sherron in our list of studs.

So I'm done listening to people in this country -- my friend at the gym, my neighbor, my father-in-law just a few days ago -- lament the lack of results in American soccer. I don't see it that way. Think of soccer like a spelling bee: We're sending our C-plus students to take on the rest of the world's valedictorians, and you know what? Our C-plus students aren't that far behind.

meh.  we're still pretty far behind.  we got knocked out by ghana  :blank:  the rest of the world is way closer to us in baseball and basketball than we are to them in soccer.

simmons always talks about what if w/ allen iverson or lebron playing soccer against some of these guys.   bill simmons' epic piece on world cup: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/100701

I would probably say that I am the Wesley Sneijder of this message board.

Uruguay 2-3 Netherlands

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

Baseball, yes.  Basketball, no.

Only 1 close game in the olympics.

Uruguay 2-3 Netherlands

eff.  that 2nd goal for the Dutch shouldn't have counted.  almost identical to the goal US had disallowed against Italy in Germany 2006.

w/o Suarez, Uruguay was basically a 1 man team.  still love you Diego

i'm the kiss of death on teams during this knockout stage.  i will be rooting for Spain.  sorry sPain but your run might end today.   :blindfold:

the Germans are looking so tough right now.  but they are missing Mueller who made everyone (except the female population of the world) forget about Michael Ballack missing out on the tournament.  could Klose break the all time scoring world cup scoring record?  needs 1 to tie and 2 to take lead from fat Ronaldo.

Germany/Holland final could be great final with historical references; Spain/Holland assures a new winner.  i can't wait to get home from work and watch this match :wristwatchguy:

balls of gold (not old) finalists:
Quote
David Villa, Xavi and Andres Iniesta are joined by Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben, Mesut Ozil, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Diego Forlan, Asamoah Gyan and Lionel Messi on the final ballot.

http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2010/07/who-should-win-the-world-cups-golden-ball.html

after Puyol's gritty semifinal performance i thought he should be on the list.  but if someone on this list wins it i hope it is Villa who has been pretty amazing even though Kraut tactics held him in the semifinal.

Midway through the first overtime....this is quite a match.  The kicking of the ball has been top shelf.
