Altidore sprained ankle

IRENE, South Africa -- U.S. forward Jozy Altidore has sprained an ankle during a training drill and is day to day.

Altidore hurt his right ankle during a workout on a shortened field Wednesday, U.S. Soccer Federation spokesman Neil Buethe said. Altidore was taken to a hospital for X-rays and was diagnosed with a mild sprain.

"It's nothing more than that," Buethe said Thursday. "He'll undergo a fitness test tomorrow to determine whether he can play Saturday."

The U.S. faces Australia on Saturday in Roodepoort in the final exhibition for both teams ahead of the World Cup. The Americans open against England on June 12.

I would actually say white people are surprisingly good at soccer.  If you take out the US who doesn't care, I'd say whitey has a pretty good ratio of top players.

Also, why are people rooting for Mexico?  To me that would be like the people that root for uk in the tourney after our season has ended.  I know they are also underdogs and they are neighbors, but they are also dirty as hell and our rivalry with them should extend to the WC!

Rio Ferdinand has been ruled out of the World Cup after injuring his left knee in training.

The England captain broke down after a tackle in the final few minutes of his team's first training session since landing in South Africa, and was taken to hospital for a scan.

The results of the scan are believed to indicate knee ligament damage and the 31-year-old will take no further part in the World Cup.

Didier Drogba was ruled out of the World Cup after breaking his right arm in a warmup match on Friday, a teammate said.

Drogba scored 29 goals in 32 English Premier League matches this season to power Chelsea to the title.

Didier Drogba, the Ivory Coast captain, will undergo an emergency operation today in an attempt to save his chances of participating in the World Cup. The striker was initially reported to have been ruled out of the tournament after dislocating his elbow in a friendly against Japan yesterday but, according to the French sports newspaper L'Equipe, he will have surgery and could be fit for his country's opening match against Portugal in 10 days' time.

I was also going to be rooting for South Africa until I saw the E60 segment on how the South African Women, especially athletes who are lesbians continually get raped without any repercussions for the person who does it.  They consider it "corrective rape" because they figure that if someone is a lesbian, they obviously don't know how good sex is with a man so raping them will "correct" their sexuality.  After that I was all like eff South Africa.

Turns out most of Africa feels the same way.
