sell me on Veatch

This was from when he was hired in 09:

Quote
MANHATTAN, Kan. - Former Wildcat football standout and Manhattan native Laird Veatch, who has 18 combined years of service in collegiate athletics as both a student-athlete and administrator, has been named Associate Athletics Director for Capital Support at Kansas State, Athletics Director John Currie announced Friday.
A 1995 K-State graduate, Veatch returns to his alma mater after a seven-year tenure with Learfield Sports, K-State's multi-media rights holder, including the last four as Regional Vice President. In his new role, Veatch will be responsible for the direction and implementation of a development program for capital projects for K-State Athletics focusing on leadership gifts.

"We could not be more excited to have someone with Laird's skills and background joining our staff," Currie said. "Laird possesses significant relationship building experience and expertise in intercollegiate athletics both on the institutional and private sector sides, and he has a great perspective on what it takes for K-State to be successful based on his in-depth knowledge of our competition."

Veatch was a four-year letterman for head coach LHC Bill Snyder and the Wildcats from 1990-1994 and served as team captain during his senior season. He was a starter on K-State's Copper and Aloha Bowl teams in 1993 and 1994 and earned honorable mention all-conference honors at linebacker in 1994. Veatch also was a two-time CFA Academic All-American, was Academic All-Big 8 four times and was a Hitachi/CFA Scholar-Athlete in 1994.

"My family and I are absolutely thrilled to be returning home to K-State," Veatch said. "I'm extremely thankful to John Currie and the rest of the senior management team for providing me with this opportunity. I've been sincerely impressed with the direction that John is taking our program, and combined with the leadership of Dr. Schulz and the return of Coach Snyder, I just could not imagine a better time to rejoin the K-State family. Through all of my time at other institutions, I have found that you just cannot find better fans - and more importantly better people - than K-Staters. I can't wait to get back there and connect with my fellow Wildcats and do my part to serve the future of K-State sports."

As Regional Vice President of Learfield Sports' Heartland Division, Veatch was responsible for the leadership and oversight of eight Division I multimedia rights departments, including four new start-up properties from the ground-up.

Veatch was first hired by Learfield Sports in 2003 as the General Manager for Mizzou Sports Properties before being promoted to Regional Vice President in 2006. In that role, Veatch coordinated all multi-media activities within the Missouri Athletics Department's External Operations team and directed all Mizzou Sports Properties staff, activities and performance.

Prior to his period at Learfield Sports, Veatch spent nine years in athletic administration including a stint as Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations at Iowa State. Veatch served as a senior advisor to the Athletics Director and also directed all external operations units, including marketing, development, media relations and event management. He also negotiated long-term contracts with Nike and Coca-Cola, resulting in significant revenue and support for the department.

Preceding his two years at Iowa State, Veatch spent six years at Missouri, the last three as Assistant Athletics Director for Development, where he oversaw all fund-raising activities for the athletic department with special emphasis on facility and capital fund-raising projects. A major contributor to Missouri's record growth in total giving, Veatch managed the Tiger Scholarship Fund (TSF) annual giving program and directed Missouri's $102 million comprehensive Capital Campaign.

Veatch began his professional career in 1995 with the University of Texas, assisting with the development program as well as the external affairs area of the Texas athletic department.

Veatch earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from K-State in 1995 and went on to receive a master's degree from the University of Texas in 1997.

What They're Saying About Laird Veatch

LHC Bill Snyder - Head Football Coach, Kansas State
"Laird was a very fine player for us and is one of those young guys that you love to pieces. He was a great teammate, a tremendous student and an excellent person who comes from a great family that still resides here in Manhattan. I am excited about having him back and think he will be absolutely terrific for this University. I am awfully proud of him."

Kirby Hocutt - Director of Athletics, University of Miami, Fla.; Former K-State student-athlete
"K-State has made an exceptional decision in bringing Laird back to Manhattan. His passion, dedication and loyalty to KSU was inspirational to many of us, especially myself during our five years playing side-by-side for the Wildcats. These same characteristics, plus his professional experience and commitment to excellence in all that he does, will allow the athletics program to continue to build upon the exceptional work Coach Snyder and Ernie Barrett have achieved in providing all teams with first-class facilities over the past two decades. I am excited about the direction of the athletics department under the leadership of John Currie, and again, congratulate him on bringing Laird, Brandy and their beautiful family back to K-State."

Chris Plonsky - Director of Women's Athletics, University of Texas
"What tremendous news for Kansas State. Laird has been incredibly productive and has contributed everywhere he has been throughout his career. He is extremely loyal and will represent the University in the very best way. I can think of no one more suited, more energetic or more passionate about Kansas State and its future with regard to capital support than Laird Veatch. He is a tremendous young leader in college athletics."

Ernie Barrett - "Mr. K-State" and Former K-State Director of Athletics
"The hiring of Laird Veatch to this position is a tremendous choice for Kansas State and personally I have been trying to get Laird back to K-State to be a part of the athletic program for quite some time. Being a former student-athlete under Coach Snyder with such a great personality, it is obvious that he will do a tremendous job as Associate AD for Capital Support."

Greg Brown - President, CEO, Learfield Sports
"Laird Veatch is a great man, great friend and an outstanding leader who has served Learfield Sports in a tremendous fashion for several years. His caring approach to leadership and his tremendous vision will serve K-State in an extraordinary fashion just as it has our company over the years. I know Laird loves his Alma Mater, so this is an extra special opportunity for him. We'll certainly miss Laird within the company, but the great part of where he's going is that we get to maintain our connection to him and his family through our partnership with Kansas State as its multi-media rights partner."

Mike Alden - Director of Athletics, University of Missouri
"As an alumnus of Kansas State University, you could not have found a better new teammate than Laird Veatch. He embodies all of the academic, social and competitive qualities that K-State stands for and he will do that in an outstanding way.  Laird has done such a great job at every institution that he has been and most recently has been a star for Learfield Sports. To get Laird back to a campus environment was going to take a very special place and obviously K-State is that place for him."
