What a shame. Just hate to see these cis-gendered female athletes get forced into competing against individuals teeming with testosterone . . . again.   Both of which were removed from international competition for testing to high in the testosterone department less than a year ago.

But it's a new world, and some people want to see this. Sad

there is a pretty fascinating case going on with the SJSU volleyball team where a player on SJSU is suing the NCAA (in a Riley Gaines led suit) because someone ON HER TEAM is transgender (allegedly). Boise State forfeited and so did Wyoming because they're refusing to play - however the trans woman has been on the team for 3 seasons! The woman suing the NCAA was her roommate for the 2023 season and didn't know or think she was trans until she heard someone gossiping in the locker room. And looking at the stats it looks like both the trans player and the player suing the NCAA have played together all season.

the actual suit:

Wild interview from the coach. Does nothing to defend either his transgender player OR his player doing the NCAA for having a transgender teammate.

"Sometimes tension is not necessarily a bad thing, and I'm not saying that there is. But you know, when you do have tension or you do have confrontations, I mean, I'm a person that believes that from confrontation, good things usually happen. We settle our differences, and we work through it," Kress said.

"The last thing that I would want is there's the white elephant in the room, and there is no tension, we don't address it, and we never move past it, right? So I think there may be tension, but it dies. If we're in a meeting room and there's tension, it dies there. If there's tension on the court, it dies there. We really don't let the boundaries cross over, and that's how I think we've been so successful thus far."

Ted Cruz has made this a huge part of his senate reelection campaign as well. It appears republicans have given up on arguing that the economy doesn’t kick ass right now.

It's a pretty big deal to the 4 people actually affected by it.

which is why it's such an effective (and especially cruel) wedge issue.

They are lame political stunts. Same teams played against her the last 2 years.

I think it's a little more hateful than just a political stunt but yeah this pretty much sums it up. Not only did these teams play against her with no problem (and won!), the person who is stirring this crap up is her teammate and former roommate who didn't even know this girl was trans until after they went through a complete season living and playing together. So sad and mean.

They are really leaning in to this one with the ads. One of the Josh Hawley ones makes me LOL every time. They literally have no platform so they just spew the culture talking points. Hi, I'm Josh Hawley and SS is amazing and I'm going to do my job to secure it for generations. The other guy won't, because of transgender people and the open border". It's rough ridin' hilarious and sad at the same time.

I really did not expect all the anti-trans political ads. I have to imagine Republicans decided they have no chance of expanding their base so they’ll just spend the last couple weeks riling up the folks they know are voting for them.

Do you think maybe the teammate felt betrayed with her roommate for not confiding in her?

yes, and those would be valid feelings. but her reaction to the news, (outing her to the world, suing the NCAA, ruining the season, subjecting her teammate to online hate) seems disproportionate to said lack of confiding.

michigancat how should the players respond? you said boycotting and forfeiting is a hateful political stunt, and the teammate suing the NCAA is disproportionate to what happened. what are the kids supposed to do? just go along?

yeah I think teams playing SJSU should play their games like they did before they knew this girl was trans. The girl suing the NCAA continues to play with her trans teammate but also went on Megyn Kelly to talk about how her teammate is a weird monster. I think she should stop doing things like that.

Now, it's certainly everyone's right to continue to be hateful, but I don't think that's what they should do.

So you don't think the administration and/or coaches should be required to see if someone is ok with rooming with a biological male?

I think the coach especially mumped up (assuming they knew the player in question was trans the entire time). They should have done what they could protect the trans player (who harmed no one) and having her room with an Alabama transfer from suburban Dallas was incredibly stupid and this is perhaps an inevitable outcome. Disclosure should probably be a part of the recruiting process, but I don't know the full situation. I definitely don't think the trans player deserved what happened because of the fuckup of the coach and administration.

I agree with most of this sentiment. Not sure what her being from suburban Dallas or transferring from Alabama has to do with anything?
